LESIA OKSANA DIAKIW
(nee MELESCHUK)
December 19, 1934 - January 29, 2021
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Nick; her children, Bob (Shelley), Kathy and Jim (Tynesa). She is also survived by her brother, Orest Meleschuk (Carol); and sister-in-law Julie Diakiw.
Baba will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Karson (Lissette), Laura, Alexandra, Portia, Wyatt; and great-granddaughter, Mila. In addition she leaves behind her nephews, Dan and Michael Diachun, Sean Meleschuk; and nieces, Karin McDyker, Carolyn and Christine Diakiw.
She was predeceased in life by her parents, Max and Ksenia Meleschuk; her twin sister Nadia Diachun; and Nadia's husband, Fred.
Lesia was born and raised in a loving home in St. Boniface, attending King George School, Norwood Collegiate and Tech Voc. After graduation, she went on to work for the City of Winnipeg Hydro. In 1956, she married Nick and together they settled in East Kildonan, where she became a stay-at-home mom.
Family meant everything to Lesia. She was devoted to her children and supported them in all of their many activities, whether it be sports, dance, music or school. She was especially proud of the fact that all three of her children graduated from the University of Manitoba. Throughout their lives, Lesia remained close to all of her children and was always proud of their many accomplishments.
She was a loving wife who supported her husband throughout his career, always by his side with anything that may have involved. She was definitely a people person, who enjoyed meeting and talking to others which was always a great asset to Nick during his career.
Later in life, Lesia was blessed with grandchildren who just further enriched her life with love. Baba was proud of each one of them, and delighted in their many activities.
She also took great pleasure in her membership with the St. Agnes Guild; volunteering her time working in the Children's Hospital gift shop, working at the annual Children's Hospital Book Market, and also at the annual Fall Tea. She especially loved the many winters spent in Palm Springs, California and the many summers spent at the family cottage in Minaki, Ontario. In both places, surrounded by family and friends and the things she loved.
Lesia was a warm, caring and generous person who was most happiest when she was spending time with the people she loved, whether it be family or friends.
Cremation has taken place, and due to restrictions a Celebration of Life will be held at later date.
MISS ME BUT LET ME GO
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me, but let me go.
For this journey we all must take
And each must go alone,
It's all part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home.
So when you are sick and lonely at heart
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds,
Miss me, but let me go.
