GIUSEPPE TORCHIA
Giuseppe was born in Miglierina (CZ), Italy, on November 25, 1934. In 1960, he married his loving wife Vincenza and spent a number of years in Germany and Miglierina before they immigrated to Winnipeg in 1968 with their children, Franca and Domenico.
Dad was a hardworking man who retired from construction in 1995. In retirement, Dad loved to spend his days tending to his garden and yard. Dad and Mom took great pride in their many handmade delicacies. They would make sausage, cheese, homemade pasta and ravioli as well as many traditional Italian holiday treats. The basement factory was usually busy making sure there was enough to share with family and friends. Dad enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and always looked forward to summer visits with Franca, Antonio and Piero.
Dad had been living with dementia for a decade. Over the last few years, the Alzheimer's had taken his memory, his mobility and his words but it did not take away his spirit. Sometimes, the person we knew and loved would shine through the fog for a brief instant with a mischievous smile or laugh. It is those brief flashes that we will remember and cherish until we meet again.
Left to mourn are his wife Vincenza, daughter Franca (Antonio), son Domenico (Kerry), grandchildren, Piero and Josh (Alicia), and his sisters in Italy - Santa (Gregorio), Stella (Giuseppe), Antonia (Domenico), Rosina (Pietro) and their families. He also leaves his extended family in Winnipeg - Giuseppe (Rosina), Antonio (Lina) and their families, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in both Italy and Canada.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., with Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum. Due to COVID restrictions the mass and interment will be limited to family only. Mass will be live streamed on the Holy Rosary Winnipeg YouTube Channel:
