PERCY GEORGE POLENSKI
March 15, 1943 - February 18, 2021
Percy is survived by his beloved partner Linda, his sister Martha Fewchuk, brother, Wilf (Myrtle) and sister Sharon Lloyd, his children, Troy, Chad and Cherie, his grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Anna, brothers-in-law, Nick Fewchuk and Reg Lloyd, nephew Garry Fewchuk, and niece Goldie Maliszewsky.
Percy was a very hard worker helping his parents and siblings on the farm. His career took him to work at Furnasman and then later he started his passion for driving. As a bus driver, he worked for Beaver Bus Lines, Grey Goose, Circle Tours, Grey Hound and
Exclusive. Besides his regular runs to
Thunder Bay, Flin Flon and Thompson, he also enjoyed taking people on chartered bus tours.
After retirement, he drove two years for the Winnipeg Goldeyes giving them as hard a time as they gave him.
He had the opportunity to visit every state in the US except Hawaii, and every Canadian province including a trip to the Arctic Circle. He was incredibly knowledgeable of the
various areas he travelled to. He was
honoured with a number of awards including One (and Two) Million Miles Accident Free and runner up for Driver of the Year.
Linda was on a bus trip to Nashville with her cousin Hope when Percy met Linda. They spent 38 years together and enjoyed
travelling to Mexico, Cuba and many parts of the States with friends, Norma and Jack and Edna and Bill. Casinos were never far away.
Towards the end, it was difficult to see
Percy unable to continue his love for driving. He missed it terribly, but was very good at keeping contact with the many drivers he worked with.
Percy struggled with his cancer (multiple myeloma) for ten years. He fought hard, especially the last six months, but the cancer won out.
Percy will always be remembered for his sense of humour, his generosity and kindness.
Many thanks go out to Dr. Dao, CancerCare, Palliative Care, Tamara, Keltie, family and friends for their care and support through these difficult times.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare or the charity of one's choice.
A private funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. The
service will be livestreamed via his obituary at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com.
Dear Percy, may you rest in peace.
Life is a journey of sweetness and sorrow,
Of yesterday's memories
and hopes for tomorrow.
Of pathways we choose and detours we face
With patience and humour,
courage and grace,
Of joys that we've shared
and of people we've met
Who have touched us in ways
we will never forget.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall
at www.gilbartfuneralhome.
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk

As a friend of Judy, Chad and Cherie, (his kids and second wife) please remember that these tributes don’t hold the same memories for his children. They knew him differently that what is shared here. Glad he overcame the challenges he faced to lead a good life, let’s hope his kids were able to as well. - Posted by: Robert C. (Friend of his children and 2nd wife) on: Feb 25, 2021

Please accept my deepest sympathy with the passing of Percy. We worked together when I was a Tour Director and he was with Grey Goose. Your drivers became like a family with many long days and stay overs at the casinos. Percy was a true professional who was caring, funny and honest. He cared about safety and I always felt extremely safe with him at the wheel. He used to call me kiddo back then. He didn’t put up with any BS. I liked that- especially when we lost our coupons lol Gosh I’m so sad to hear this news. Rest In Peace Percy!! Linda, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Percy was a kind and generous man who had a great sense of humor. I had the pleasure of getting to know Percy through my friend Goldie (who I miss terribly) and her family. Our heartfelt condolences to Martha, Jerry and Debbie, Neil and Gail, Kyle and Lisa, Justin and Stephanie, Sharon and Kevin, Wilf and Myrtle and their families. We are so sorry for your loss. Percy and Worked at Grey Goose in the 70s and 80s. Both doing Circle Tours and charters together. A fond memory (one of many) was an Elvis Presley concert at the St Pauls Minnesota Concert Hall. Working again wth Percy at Exclusive was a trip down memory lane for both of us. Rest in Peace my Friend.I well miss you. God willing we well meet again 😎💛🚌 - Posted by: Bryan Kliewer (Friend and co worker at Grey Goose and Exclusive Bus Tours ) on: Feb 20, 2021

Percy and I worked together, along with my dad, at Grey Goose/Greyhound for many years. Percy and my dad used to do all the Nashville tours back in the ‘80’s for Circle Tours. Percy was a good operator and a better friend. I always enjoyed visiting with Percy and getting his perspective on things. I sat with him recently at a funeral of another retired driver and we had a chance to catch up, I am glad now that happened. Godspeed Percy, I hope you and all the retired drivers up there, including my dad, are having a good time. Smitty jr. - Posted by: Kevin Smith (Friend/colleague ) on: Feb 20, 2021
