April 8, 1930 - March 3, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Pauline Phaneuf, on March 3, 2021, at the age of 90.
Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her children, Alfred (Anne), Elaine (Emile deceased), Evelyn, Marc (Huguette), Paul (Sherry) and Guy (Jennifer). She also leaves behind many grandchildren, Célèste (Andrew), Melissa (Eric), François, Lisa (Stéphane), Patrick (Monique), Rémy (Christi-An), Roger (Monica), Rhéanne (Andrew), Stephane, Colin, Chloé, Samuel, Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Zander, Luka and Miguel, Arianne, Brielle and Marco, Béatrice and Henri, Cabrel and Cécilia.
She was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Ann (Pelletier); husband François (Frank); daughter Patricia; brothers, Raymond (Simone), Albert, Patrick, Paul (Ruth) and George; sisters, Evelyn, Laurette (Alberic), Georgette Francis (Pete) Roach, Lorraine; brother-in-law George Bellanger (Germaine); as well as son-in-law Emile Huberdeau. She is survived by her sister Germaine; brother Eddie (June); and sisters-in-law, Stella, Yvonne and Isabelle.
Mom was born and raised in Vawn, Saskatchewan and later moved to Sainte Agathe, Manitoba where her and Frank bought a garage and operated a successful Texaco bulk fuel delivery service. Pauline was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many beautiful wedding and bridesmaid gowns, as well religious Habits for the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. She had a flare for style and was meticulous in her handiwork.
She was very involved in the community and loved to entertain, hosting many family gatherings, most notably at Christmas time with the annual "Réveillon" after midnight mass. After the sudden death of her beloved husband Frank, Mom worked as secretary and librarian at Ecole Sainte-Agathe for many years, providing for her three young sons still living at home.
Mom enjoyed doing arts and crafts including needlepoint, ceramics, knitting and woodworking. She took great pride in her manicured yard and spent her summers tending her beautiful rock garden, flower beds and shrubs. She was very active and always had a project on the go. She was an avid sports fan and loved taking in hockey, baseball and curling especially when it meant cheering on her children and grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank the kind and supportive staff at Actionmarguerite Saint Boniface 2DE for their care and compassion for our mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • What a beautiful woman. It was a pleasure to have known her. I will always remember her smile. She always took the time to chat with the students. My sympathies to the families. Rest in peace Pauline. - Posted by: Michelle (Vermette) Gregoire (Student from school) on: Mar 15, 2021

  • “Our sincere sympathies to Aunt Pauline's family and friends. We are grateful for having had the opportunity to travel with Aunt Laurette to celebrate Aunt Pauline's 80 birthday. The love shared by her friends and family was very apparent, and the gracious hosts and hostesses treated us to a great long weekend. Over the years, I recall how we looked forward to a visit from the Phaneuf family on special occasions or a summer holiday. May you be comforted by your fond memories and each other, and may Aunt Pauline rest in peace. Our love to all. - Posted by: Frances A WASHBROOK (Niece) on: Mar 14, 2021

- Posted by: Guy Gagnon (Ami ) on: Mar 13, 2021

  • Our most sincere sympathies to the family. When Mom first came to Ste Agathe, Pauline was very welcoming (as were the Courcelles family). I remember walking to the store with Mom. We would run into Pauline and Mom and her would talk for a long time. Reading through her obits brought back many great memories. Mom said that Pauline was a great seamstress and sewed many wedding gowns. RIP Pauline. You are now reunited with Frank and no doubt having a cup of coffee with Mom. - Posted by: Darlene and Jacques Sorin (Friends) on: Mar 13, 2021
