MILAGROS GONZALES
February 28, 1943 - March 7, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt and Ninang, Milagros Gonzales, who bravely fought and lost her battle with cancer.
Milagros (Mely) is predeceased by her father Delfin Sr.; mother Mercedes and eldest brother Adelardo. She will be missed by her siblings, Editha (Rudolfo) Punzalan (San Francisco), Edgardo (Erlinda) (Philippines), from Winnipeg, Rebecca (Ramon) Faunal, Teresita (Efren) Lobaton, Norma (Loreto) Cuevas, Delfin Jr. (Nenita), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, California, Florida, Philippines, France, Guam, Toronto and Vancouver.
Mely was born and raised in Naic, Cavite, Philippines. In June 1969, Mely was the pioneer of our family, as she was the first to immigrate to Winnipeg. In our family there is only ONE "Ninang" and we owe everything to her. Ninang changed our family's life when she bravely moved to Canada. Ninang proudly worked as a garment worker for 39 years until her retirement in 2008. She was very proud that a garment worker could bring her mother and four siblings to Canada. Ninang Mely dedicated her life to her family and will be forever remembered for her kindness, generosity and unselfish nature. Ninang treated her nieces and nephews like her own children and she put her nieces and nephews in the Philippines through college. She also loved spoiling her great-nieces and nephews and never came empty handed when she visited.
Throughout her life, Ninang enjoyed dancing and travelling - especially if it is a weekend casino trip. She will also be remembered for her love of collecting miniatures, reading and constantly working on a crochet or cross stitch project while watching TV. Ninang, we will remember you always and miss you very much.
Our family would like to thank CancerCare at St. Boniface Hospital for taking care of our sister and aunt.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, mass and interment will be limited to family only.
