JOSEPH ZAK
Joseph is survived by wife Gladys, son Robert, son-in-law Ken, and sister Wanda Peddle (Zak).
Joseph was born to Nellie and Stanley Zak on December 14, 1931 in Winnipeg. He married his love Gladys Wolak on June 9, 1956. He was employed as a licensed electrician for the Winnipeg School Division for 38 years. Joe became a skilled handyman, completely finishing the basement of his home himself, including a functional bar and ornamental fireplace! The summer holidays during his working years were spent quite literally driving all over North America setting up the tent trailer in various campgrounds.
In retirement, Joseph had more time to pursue his favourite leisure activities. He was an avid season ticket holder for the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball, and also loved watching hockey and football. He enjoyed his winter vacation home with Gladys in Mesa, where they experienced many wonderful warm Arizona winters together. He was also regularly involved in community volunteer work for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Winnipeg, and the Canadian Snowbirds Association in Mesa.
Joe enjoyed many cruises on Disney Cruise Line with the family to such locations as Alaska, the Panama Canal, Southern Caribbean and a Transatlantic sailing to Norway. But his all time favourite travel destination was Hawaii (Oahu and the Big Island) which was his dream paradise to which nothing else could quite compare.
Joseph will be remembered as a kind, calm, polite, and soft spoken man. He was hardworking, methodical and rational; the voice of reason, even when everyone else around him was not. Joe was the ultimate supportive father and loving husband, always a best friend to Gladys throughout their 64 years of marriage. He will be dearly missed, and remembered in our hearts forever.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private service was held.
