RAJ KUMARI TALWAR
Born in Multan, Pakistan, Mom immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1969 with her husband and five children. Not one to shy away from any challenge that life threw her way, Mom quickly got started on creating a life for herself and her family in Canada, which included learning to drive (fast!), wearing bell bottom pants, learning English, and becoming an integral part of the East Indian community in Winnipeg. After the death of her husband, Mom worked harder than before to care and provide for her children.
After her retirement, Mom split her time between Winnipeg and Halifax, and continued to have an active social life in both places, which consisted of playing cards, singing, dancing and devoting time to the Hindu temples in both cities, as well as the Hindu Seniors Society in Winnipeg. Mom also played an active role in the lives of her grandchildren (and great-grandchildren, thereafter) who gravitated to her warm, positive and comforting personality. Mom was a woman of many talents, but she will be remembered most for her incredible cooking, specifically her infamous samosas.
Mom is survived by her children: Madhu Mehta, Karan Talwar (Ellen Egan), Indu Sehgal (Gagan), Aran Talwar (Renuka Rai), and Rohit Talwar (Carol Miller); her grandchildren: Anita Mehta, Anju Kukreja (Ajay), Arun Mehta, Nathan Talwar, Chandni Sehgal, Kyle Talwar, Rhea Talwar, Colin Talwar, and Meghan Talwar; her great-grandchildren: Kabir and Kaavya Kukreja; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings: Ramesh Kapoor and family, YK Kapoor and family, Yogesh Kapoor and family, Vimal (Jyoti) Kapoor and family, the family of Nand Kishore Talwar, and the family of Mangal Talwar.
Mom is predeceased by her parents, Premanand Dewan and Mahnorama Devi Dewan; her brother Satish Dewan, her husband Goverdhan Talwar, her sister-in-law Krishna Talwar; her brothers-in-law, Nand Kishore Talwar and Mangal Talwar; and her son-in-law Triloki Mehta.
