PATRICIA LYNNE SPILCHUK
(SUTHERLAND)
August 4, 1941 - April 23, 2021

Lynne was raised in East Kildonan and attended Polson and Miles MacDonnel schools. At Miles Mac she met her first husband Al Scott, and together they had two children - Debra Guppy and Glen Hagen. Lynne and the two children would live together in their house on McCalman Avenue for the next 20 years.
Lynne worked part time at the Winnipeg Free Press, where she met her second husband David Hagen. After the Free Press she moved on to a 25 year career with the Manitoba Motor Vehicle Branch, retiring in 1996. That same year Lynne moved permanently to Spruce Bay in Arnes, to the home she had purchased in 1994.
Lynne met Norman Spilchuk in 1990, and they spent many years together travelling in their trailer across Canada and the United States. They were married in 2000, and when they weren't travelling they enjoyed their time together at Spruce Bay, where they had a wide circle of friends. After Norman passed Mom continued to live in her home, and was active in the community. She attended Aquacize classes at Arnes and was a member of the Gimli New Horizons Centre and the Royal Canadian Legion. She had a large extended family, and was known as Mom to many of them and Grandma Lynne to their children. When Mom became ill recently her extended family reached out to visit, call and send flowers. Thanks to their love and kindness she was able to spend her final days surrounded by and in contact with the people she loved. We are grateful to these family who also took time to help Mom with yard and house care over the years, and shared meals and card games on so many evenings.
Mom has at various times in her life been described as "a pistol" and "a going concern", a testament to her energy and love of social activity. She loved to attend socials and dance, and travelling to see her favourite musicians perform. She always remembered birthdays with a call or a card, and was definitive source for family news. She had a great sense of humour right up to the end, and enjoyed teasing her caregivers, often with just a roll of the eyes or a grin.
Lynne was predeceased by husbands, David and Norman; her parents, Gwen and John Sutherland; and her beloved aunt and namesake Patricia Cooke, who passed away last year aged 107.
Lynne is survived by her children, Debbie (Marc) and Glen (Wendy); her brother John (Jack) Sutherland, (Donna) of Calgary; and grandchildren, Allan "AJ" Bartosh, Matthew (Biljana) Bartosh, Courtney (Jack) Naport, Kimberly (Ryan) Sawada and Ashley (Anesty) Carasoulos. Left to miss her are many great-grandchildren, Jayla, Kelsey and Laila of Winnipeg, and Jake, Max, Kaiden, Kaiya, Rylee, Blake, Brody, Olivia and Elias of Ontario.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held when we may gather. Interment in the Garden of Four Prophets, Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Palliative Care Manitoba and all the home care workers who provided excellent care that allowed Mom to spend her final days comfortably at home.
