ELIO MANCINELLI
February 10, 1933 - June 2, 2021
Elio leaves to mourn his wife of 61 years Antoinetta Mancinelli; daughter Cinzia (Ron); son Jim (Marie); and his grandchildren, Corey, Nicole (Mat) and Lucas.
He also leaves behind his sister Fulvia Cuiffi of Italy; brother-in-law Loreto Mancini (Angela); brother-in-law Domenic Sacco (Rachael); sisters-in-law Tommasina and Filomena Mancini; special friends, Joe and Meline Solomon; along with many nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and Brazil.
Elio was predeceased by his parents, Luigi and Lucia Mancinelli and his parents-in-law, Vincenzo and Assunta Mancini all of Italy; brothers, Pasquale Mancinelli (Cicilia) and Fernando Mancinelli (Irma) of Brazil; sister Angelina (Adriano) of Italy; brother Nello (Giovanna) of Italy; brothers-in-law, Emedio Ciuffini, Sebastiano Ruffilli, Vitorio Mancini all of Italy; and brothers-in-law, Urbano Mancini, Benito Mancini and sister-in-law Maria Sacco, all of Winnipeg.
Elio was born in Tempera, L'Aquila, Italy on February 10, 1933 and was raised there. As a young man, after serving in the Alpini Army, he found the love of his life and was engaged to be married. Wanting to give his bride-to-be a good life, he joined his two older brothers in São Paulo, Brazil, seeking work. In the three years living there he married Antoinetta on March 19, 1960 by proxy, and had her join him as his wife in Brazil. In December of 1961 their daughter Cinzia was born. Still seeking a better life for his family, they left the tropical weather of São Paulo and immigrated to the frigid weather of Winnipeg, arriving on December 24, 1961. Immediately seeking work, he began his career as a tile setter working for Trevi Tile. In May of 1966 they welcomed their son Jim to the family. Elio worked hard and long hours to provide a good life for his family. He was proud of his work, and it showed in his home and in the homes of others. He also left his mark in and on many buildings in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba.
One of his loves was his cabana at the Oasis. Many weekends were enjoyed there, providing many good memories with family and friends. He even had a cantina for his homemade wine, which he took pride in making every year. Any spare time he had in the summer was spent in his garden or pruning his grape vines in the backyard. If Elio was home in the summer evenings, you would find him sitting under his canopy of grape vines, sipping a glass of wine.
After 37 years of hard work, Elio retired from his career working for Fabris and Watts. During retirement, he and his wife took yearly winter trips to Mazatlan, and they travelled back home to Italy and Brazil several times.
In his final years, he called Tuxedo Villa Extendicare his home.
Elio was loved by all and was a strong and wonderful husband and father who taught his children love and respect.
A private family service will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano as the Celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Mass will be livestreamed to accommodate external viewers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's honour to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their exemplary compassion and care.
Riposa in pace Papa
