NETTIE POWZUN
(nee EZEWSKI)
She was predeceased by her husband Samuel Powzun; sisters, Mary Serkes, Anne Sokolowski, and Rose Chamberland.
She leaves behind to mourn daughters, Angela (John) Jasnikowski and Virginia (Jim) Poklitar; sister-in-law Mary Kuslak; granddaughters, Holly Poklitar (Blaine Martinson), Nicole (Steve) Couch, and Rachael Poklitar (Tim Debenham); great-grandsons, Matthew Martinson and Cameron Couch, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Nettie was born November 10, 1931 in Silver, Manitoba, to John and Julia (nee Slipenki) Ezewski. John and Julia were born in Ukraine and immigrated to Manitoba to farm. Nettie was the youngest of four girls. Her father passed away in 1940 when she was only nine years old.
Nettie married Sam Powzun in 1950. They settled in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg. Nettie and Sam celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the year 2000.
Nettie was well known for her baking and sewing. She loved to garden, especially flowers. She was generous with her time and would help out family and friends whenever she was asked.
Her granddaughters fondly remember time spent at Baba's house as kids - celebrating Christmas Eve, jumping in her backyard "pool" (a 4-gallon pail), playing with an ice cream pail of buttons, and finishing a meal with Blue Boy ice cream. We will cherish the memories of our Mother and Baba in our hearts forever.
The family thanks the staff of Holy Family for their excellent care of Nettie.
Her mind is clear now and her body is free.
Due to Covid-19, a private graveside service will be held at Glen Eden Cemetery.
