TERRY HALLDORSON
1959 - 2021

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Terry Halldorson. Following a brave battle with cancer, Terry passed on Friday, June 11, 2021, in Pinawa, MB surrounded by his loving family.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Janet of 33 1/2 years, sons, Todd (Alysa) and Jamie, brother Leonard (Catherine and family), sister Lue (Pete and family), the Leganchuks, and many extended family and friends.
Terry celebrated his 62nd birthday on June 7. He has gone to meet his Creator and parents, Helen and Halldor, and many relatives and friends. I'm sure they are reminiscing about the good times they had.
Terry's early years were full of fun. He cherished time with long-time friends, Bill, Gary and Alex including a weekend together last year. Terry created many memories at the St. Vital Hotel and the Marigold Restaurant. He loved to play hockey with the Glenwood Old Stars and baseball with several teams including the Dirty Muggers and Club St. B. Terry met Janet at a baseball tournament in 1982. He always loved to talk about the "Good Old Days".
Terry worked for the City of Winnipeg for 38 years, and held numerous roles: Arena attendant, maintenance of the sidewalks, roads, parks and mechanic. One of his last jobs was in the Training Branch, which he enjoyed, because he loved meeting people including his good friend "Porky" and then Gary. Later, Terry worked part time at the Notre Dame Arena, cleaning the ice for over eight years and had lots of good times with his co-workers there.
He loved spending time with family and his most precious gifts - Todd and Jamie. He enjoyed taking the boys to their sports and camping, including 15 years at Falcon Lake, creating many great memories with friends. One favourite memory, which friends may recall, is when Terry helped the boys make a mini-golf course on our site.
The boys will carry on Terry's passion for golf (Todd) and fishing and ice fishing (Jamie). Terry played countless rounds of golf with Brent and the Brewers, and spent hours fishing with Walter and ice fishing with the Treger men (the big house).
After retirement, Terry wanted to be close to golf and fishing. We had a seasonal camp site at Relax Ridge (thanks Brent for everything) and then purchased a house in Pinawa. Terry became the course marshal at the Pinawa Golf & Country Club, where Terry could continue to meet and greet people. Thanks to Vicki and Adam (he so loved the morning coffees and the occasional visit from Flipper).
Our family is also thankful to Rey who took Terry on his last day of fishing.
Terry said he had "No regrets, I did what I wanted and when I wanted, except one thing… perhaps I should have listened to my wife and quit smoking."
Terry says: "FAREWELL TO ALL, and I HAD A GOOD RUN AT LIFE"
The family thanks the staff at Pinawa Hospital for making his last months as comfortable as possible.
I would like to thank all the people that were in contact with us during the time of my husband's illness. People may not realize how a little act of kindness such as a phone call can help someone going through a difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
A Celebration of Life will occur in the future; should you want to be included please provide your information to: celebrateterhall@gmail.com.

  • I got to know Terry when we were just kids playing hockey. Terry was a stalwart on defense when we first played together on our Glenwood Midget team that lost by a goal in the playoffs that year to the team that ended up winning the city championship. Later Terry and I both ended up working for the city and over the years we found ourselves working together once in awhile. I will never forget the year we were both at St. Vital Park and it was during this time that Terry took me fishing one day on the Red at Selkirk. I caught a 13 lb,31 1/4 inch Walleye that Terry made sure I was able to get in the boat. I memory I will never forget. At the later stage of our city careers I was at the Zoo and Terry was in the training branch. Anytime Terry was close to the Zoo he would search me out and we would spend time just shooting the breeze about work and the old days. Terry was a good guy and I am going to miss that smiling friendly face that always made me laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with you Janet and your family . • So very sorry for your loss Janet and family 🙏🏻 Terry and I grew up down the street from one another. It was a great surprise two summers ago, when he was not only our starter out at Pinawa, but joined us for nine holes! Wendy and I had the pleasure of seeing him and Janet a couple of times out at Gibs. Terry always brought a smile to my face. He’ll be missed by many. Till we meet again! • Terry was a good friend and like my older brother he had a big heart and was always there to help me with my equipment and giving me heck about using regular gas in the equipment. I found out Terry was sick and called him he was so happy we talked and so was I. I can honestly say this guy was a true and genuine person and I really can't say that about many people. I will miss him dearly, my condolences to you Janet and your family. - Posted by: Mack Licoppe (Friend ) on: Jun 23, 2021

  • Dear Jan and Boys, I am so very sorry for your loss and the pain you must be feeling. You not remember me, Jan, but when you and Terry joined our Mixed Slo-Pitch team, The Outlaws, the fun metre went waaaaaay up, not to mention the number in the win column. I golfed 2 days last summer at Pinawa and wished I'd known you were out there. But alas, I let too much time go by and failed to keep in touch. I know you will have countless happy memories of your wonderful husband and dad. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Most sincerely, Mo McLeod - Posted by: Maureen (Mo) McLeod (Winakwa Mixed Slo-Pitch Teammate) on: Jun 21, 2021

  • We are so sorry to hear of Terry’s passing. Terry was a great guy to be around. His sense of humor was contagious. I cherish the memories we have at Falcon Lake. Those were the days my friend. I always knew when Terry was barbequing because my dog Belle went missing. She knew Terry was going to give her steak, smokies or whatever was on his grill. All the fun times with Terry, fishing, golfing and tubing. I will never forget Terry trying out the Air Chair, what a brave man. It is sad knowing that I will never run into Terry. It is comforting to know that all the great memories I have of him will keep him in my heart forever. Until we meet again my friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Janet, Todd and Jamie. • My deepest condolences Janet and boys. I didn't know Terry well, but met him while working with Janet at Social Services. Janet at I had a camping trip together at Rushing River before we were both married. I remember she had a little to much tequilla, so we had to leave early and I had to dry the wet tent out in my apartment when I got back. Then she married Terry, I was actually just recently looking through the pictures I had from their wedding, both in white, it was a fun day! I had a Halloween costume which was a jumpsuit with a skeleton bones on it, I lent to Terry one year, still not sure how that he fit into it, but apparently he did! Sorry we lost touch Janet and so sad to hear about Terry, he was far to young. - Posted by: Elaine Thidrickson (Friend) on: Jun 19, 2021

  • Terry was like our other dad. We met as neighbors in Island Lakes but it wasn't long until we became family. Terry was always there to help if we needed anything. Like that time I asked him to remove the baby birds from the nest they made in my house, I couldn't stand to watch but when he was done I asked if he set the birds free. He said "yes Natalie I walked them over to the pond and they are all ok". My kids still talk about the time Terry let them play with his fishing bait when we went to visit and the fun they had swimming at the pool. He was an amazing man and will be missed by all.
