October 19, 1936 ~ June 21, 2021

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Henri Benjamin on June 21, 2021.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Rita (née Grégoire), his children, Diane (Luc), Marcel (Wendy), Denis (Jill), and will never be forgotten by his 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Henri was predeceased by his son Guy, his parents, Thérèse (Pelletier) and André Benjamin, and numerous brothers, sisters and in-laws. He is survived by sisters, Juliette and Marie Jeanne.
Henri was born in St. Norbert on October 19, 1936. He was the youngest of 13 children. He lived there on the farm until he was 13 and then moved to St. Boniface with his mother after his father's passing in 1950. In 1958, he married Rita and they settled down on an acreage near the town of St. Jean Baptiste where they lived for 50 years. He worked in the construction industry and he also worked for the Municipality of Montcalm for 26 years as St. Jean Waterworks Superintendant. He also farmed in the Red River Valley for 34 years rotating crops and seeing the fruit of his labours.
He led by example with hard work and generously mentored so many on how to successfully piece together a career with a life well lived. His children and grandchildren are evidence of this legacy. He was an innovator and he was always mulling over that next project. He was the family's consultant and he encouraged you to be your best and do your best. He raised his children with love and care and instilled confidence in them.
Henri had a real "joie de vivre". He enjoyed the company of friends and family and shared moments of laughter and calm that can only be experienced in his presence. He had an active recreation life and enjoyed fishing, camping and snowbirding. In later years Henri and Rita purchased a cottage in the Lake of the Woods area to bring together his love for his family and for the outdoors. In his last years, his eyesight degraded but it did not prevent his enjoyment of his many days spent at the cottage enjoying the call of the loons and the conversations from the always visiting family and friends.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private funeral service for Henri will take place at St. Emile Catholic Church on July 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. and will be livestreamed on the church's website:
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Henri Benjamin to CNIB or Paroisse St-Jean-Baptiste Parish.

  • Dear Rita and family… very saddened to hear of your loss. When I had talked to you and Henri on your birthday, you were both so looking forward to being able to spend time at your cottage. But, sadly for you and your family, the good Lord had other plans for him. He is now happily reunited with his son and other family members. Henri had a life well-lived with a cheerful and friendly disposition. We always enjoyed our chitchatting with Henri and Rita, and our get-togethers in Texas. To the whole family, our sincere condolences. May he now rest in the loving arms of his Saviour. 🙏🏻✝️ Noëlla (Grégoire) et Hervé Gagné - Posted by: Noëlla Gagné (cousin to Rita) on: Jun 26, 2021
