VIOLET MARSH
1927 - 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Violet Marsh on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg.
Violet will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Terry; sons, Bruce (Linda), Greg (Belinda) and Kevin (Cheryl). She will also be greatly missed by her six grandchildren, Brent, Jason (Lindsay), Cassandra (Tyler), Evan, Nicholas and Bradley; four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Benjamin, Corey and Ryan. Violet was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Walter; her parents, Nicholas and Lena Sawchuk and her sisters, Anne, Annette and Eleanor.
Violet was born in Winnipeg on September 29, 1927 and grew up in Winnipeg. Vi met Wally in high school where they became lifelong sweethearts, eventually getting married. Together they raised their family in a loving environment and were always proud of the accomplishments of all of their children.
Violet worked in accounting departments for both Eatons and Sears. Throughout that time, she was able to balance her family and work life to ensure everyone was taken care of.
Violet was loving and supportive of all of her grandchildren and would provide the encouragement to "spread their wings" when trying something new. Advising them to "give it a try. If it works out, great, if it doesn't you won't be wondering what if."
Vi enjoyed getting together with friends, often for evening of playing cards. She loved dancing with Wally and they were often on the floor dancing waltzes and polkas.
Once Walter retired from the City of Winnipeg Fire Department, they wintered in Tempe Arizona and quickly became snowbirds. They loved heading south every winter and took pleasure entertaining family and friends who came to visit. Violet took great pleasure attending family gatherings and always enjoyed seeing her family happy together.
Goodbye Mom. We love you and will miss you dearly. We are sure you are in a better place and that you and Dad are together dancing once again.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the caring and supportive staff of the Donwood Manor Personal Care Home for the care given to Violet during the past several years.
As per Violet's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I just wanted to give my sincerest condolences to the Marsh clan on the passing of your mother/grandmother/great-grandmother. I have fond memories of playing with Kevin as a child, and of enjoying those amazing miniature donuts with icing sugar topping your mom would spoil us with. Actually last week I was watching a cooking show on tv, and I had a flashback of your mom and her donuts...strange coincidence. Even though many years have passed since we walked through each others' doors, I remember how lovely your mom and the entire family was...I hope you are all left with wonderful family memories...may your Mom rest in peace! - Posted by: Andrea (Rubinfeld) Levy (Old neighbour) on: Jul 09, 2021

  • I fondly remember your mother Vi Marsh and your father Wally Marsh from way back, when we were next-door neighbours. Your parents were very good neighbours, and could be counted on. I recall one time in elementary school I became ill with the stomach flu and was sent home, and wouldn't you know it, my mom wasn't home, so your mom took care of me. Like my sister Renee, I also recall those delicious mini-doughnuts with icing sugar on top, that your mom was kind enough to share with us. I recall, too, that caterpillar sprinkler your family had that would jump around, and all the kids would splash around in it. The obituary you wrote was a beautiful and fitting tribute to your mom. - Posted by: Sandy Rubinfeld (former neighbour) on: Jul 09, 2021

  • I was glancing thru the Sat. obits & your mom's obit caught my eye. Our family (the Rubinfelds) lived next door to yours on McAdam Avenue many years ago. I think Terry babysat us & my sister Andi & I used to play with Kevin. I remember both your parents and remember seeing your dad in his fireman gear. One memory of your mom is that she made home-made mini donuts that were amazing & she used to give my sisters & me some whenever she made a batch. Ironically, I live on Donwood now very close to Donwood Manor. If I knew your mom was there before Covid, maybe I could have caught up with all of you. Our parents passed away several years ago, quite young. On behalf of my sisters Sandy, Andi & myself, our sympathy on the loss of your mother. She was a very nice woman from what I remember. - Posted by: Renee Billauer (Rubinfeld) (old neighbour) on: Jul 08, 2021

  • My condolences to the entire Marsh Family. Mrs. Marsh was a wonderful lady who always had a smile for everyone. - Posted by: Norma Fraser (Friend) on: Jul 03, 2021
