LARRY SCHLAMB
He was born in Neepawa, MB on May 22, 1939. He grew up on a farm near Gladstone and went to Bear Creek School one mile west where he got his education up to Grade 10 then Grade 11 at Gladstone Collegiate.
He was the eldest son of Jack and Lillian Schlamb so he did all the chores such as pumping water for the cattle, cleaning the barn and hauling wood and coal for the stoves. In his preschool years he had rode the fender of the tractor while his dad was plowing.
At 17 he moved to Winnipeg and worked many jobs: Chicken Delight, Grosvenor Taxi, cook on the train and finally with Canada Post for 37 years before retiring in 2001. He loved being in his woodworking shop. The last several years he has had several health issues: thyroid, skin and bladder cancer. The last five years he was treated for multiple myeloma.
In 1961 he met Helen - the love of his life. Larry is survived by four children: Wanda, Darren (Carol), Brian (Kim) and Rhonda, and one granddaughter, Caitlin. Also one brother and two sisters. He was predeceased by his mom and dad, one brother, one sister, son-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Our family would like to thank the following people for their care and compassion that was given to Larry during his illnesses: Dr. Dao, Brittney and Dr. Musleh and the Palliative Care nurses.
Cremation has taken place and due to current Covid 19 restrictions a gathering will be held at a later date.
