FRANCIS (FRANK) WILFRED HUMPHREYS
He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Isobel (nee Webster). He is lovingly remembered by daughters, Susan (Alan), Patricia (Don), Frances (Francis), son James (Roberta), and special nephew Bob Hamilton (Lynn). He was a dear Grandpa to grandchildren, Carolyn, Lindsay, Brian, Kevin, Ian, Pamela, Patrick, Dylan, Cameron, and Liam, as well as eight great-grandchildren.
The only child of Wilfred and Hildred Humphreys, Frank attended schools in River Heights, and he graduated from United College and Dominion Business College. His family attended St. Aidan's Anglican Church where Frank participated in Sunday School, choir, and Anglican Young People's Association. There he married the love of his life, Isobel.
Frank's working life was largely spent employed by Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian Pacific Express and Transport, retiring at age 60. For much of the 1960s and 1970s he also managed coin-operated juke boxes and pinball games in rural locations and co-owned an arcade in Winnipeg.
Music and sports filled and enriched Dad's entire life. A foundation in classical piano lessons and playing clarinet in a youth orchestra soon expanded into proficient playing of popular swing, jazz and boogie woogie. He often entertained at social gatherings and played in a pop combo as a young adult.
Dad grew up playing baseball and hockey, and later participated in recreational tennis and skiing. He enjoyed alley bowling and, in retirement, lawn bowling with Mum, and slo-pitch baseball. He coached hockey for many years at Sir John Franklin Community Centre, and he played in the first old timers hockey league in Winnipeg in which he participated two or three times per week until well into his 80s. He was a devoted fan of the Manitoba Moose and of course, the Jets, both 1.0 and 2.0.
Dad was a kind, gentle soul who had lots of energy and liked to keep busy. He could be counted on to help in supporting roles in organizations to which he belonged. Dad had a reserved but quirky personality and was always ready with a wry comment and sly grin.
Sincere thanks to the staff at West Park Manor Personal Care Home for their compassionate care for the last three and a half years of Dad's life.
Donations may be made in Dad's memory to True North Youth Foundation which supports underserved youth in Manitoba, 3969 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3K 1W4.
A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Wednesday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m., the Rev. Donna Joy officiating.

I remember your father from when we were kids growing up on Lanark St. I remember the old juke box in your basement and how much it amazed me that your father had one in perfect working order. He was a kind man. I know you will miss him. - Posted by: Dale Dearden (Friend of the family) on: Oct 14, 2021

Our great and dear friend Jimmy and the Humphreys family, please accept our deepest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of your father Frank. You can take comfort in the long wonderful life he lived and the memories created for your family to cherish always. He was a good man, husband and father who held family, friends in the highest regards. His passion for hockey and the teammates he skated with his whole life made him a "celebrity" on the ice. The "Rocket" was a legend within the old-timers /beer leagues in Winnipeg. I will make a point of going to the Pony Corral and raise a glass in tribute to the "the Rocket" Respectfully, Wayne Hotchkiss, Char, Grace, Lauren and Pippa - Posted by: Wayne Hotchkiss (Family Friend - Jim Humphreys ) on: Jul 14, 2021

OUR SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO THE HUMPHREYS FAMILY IN THE LOSS OF FRANK HUMPHREYS (OUR ROCKET). FRANK LOVED TO PLAY HOCKEY WITH THE TUES/THURS GROUP AND ALTHOUGH HIS SKILLS WERE LIMITED IN THE LATTER YEARS HE CERTAINLY ENJOYED BEING WITH THE GUYS ON THE ICE AND FOR A BEER AFTERWARDS. FRANK WAS EVEN AWARDED CJOB HOCKEY STAR OF THE WEEK AND WAS ON TV WITH OUR GROUP. WE PRESENTED HIM WITH A CAKE AND ALL THE GUYS WERE ON THE ICE AND APPLAUDED HIM AND HE WAS QUITE PLEASED. THERE WERE ONLY TWO ROCKETS IN HOCKEY, ONE WAS ROCKET RICHARD AND THE OTHER WAS OUR ROCKET (FRANK HUMPHREYS) RIP OUR FRIEND. - Posted by: ST JAMES OLDTIMERS HOCKEY (TUES & THURS) (BOB ESSERY -MGR) on: Jul 13, 2021

My condolences, Patty. Our parents were longtime friends. One of my memories is going over to your house and being able to play songs on your dad's juke box. My favourite was "Teddy Bears' Picnic". - Posted by: Eileen (Smith) Kellner (Family friend) on: Jul 11, 2021

Patty, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Even though he had a long and happy life, it's still hard to lose them no matter what age we are. I didn't know him personally, but I understand the loss of parents. I hope you are coping well and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Catherine Appler (Patty's friend from school) on: Jul 10, 2021

My condolences to your family. Frank lived across the street from me on Lanark & often would join Grace Merkel & myself for a cocktail or two in the afternoon. I enjoyed conversations with him about many different subjects. Everyone knew Frank. He was busy at something always. He had an amazingly long active life.
