Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Worked with Uncle Harry (as many called him) on a number of civic projects - - - Harry was fortunate to have a man assist him with computers, files, juggling appointments and investigations. Harry was the Columbo of City Councillors - almost everything was "an investigation". Truly, one of the greatest politicians in Manitoba history. Of that there can be no doubt. - Posted by: Morris J Bay (Friend) on: Aug 21, 2021

  • My sincerest condolences to the Lazarenko Family, I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Rina Huppe (Lucarelli) (Friend) on: Aug 12, 2021

  • Harry was a trusted colleague and a true gentleman. His experience, knowledge and common sense were invaluable assests to all of his constituents and also to members of Council. Harry never hesitated to speak up about whatever he felt was right for the City and was a real champion for his community. I will always remember Harry. I wish to extend sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace Harry! Roger Young - Posted by: Roger Young (Former Winnipeg City Councillor for Pembina-Riverview) on: Jul 15, 2021

  • Condolences to Harry Lazarenko's family. I had the opportunity to work with him at City Hall in the mid-1990s and always enjoyed the conversations we had. Councillor Laz was devoted to his constituents and spent a lot of time talking with them - he was a man of the people. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Krystyl Harland (Former co-worker) on: Jul 14, 2021

  • My condolences to the family. Harry use to come out to the farm many years ago in Portage with John and Gail. I was just a kid but I remember the fun we all had. He was a wonderful guy and he will be missed. - Posted by: Gladys Green (My sister was married to Harrys brother John) on: Jul 11, 2021

  • I live in the Mynarski ward in the North End. My mother, a senior, also lived with me. My mother used a cane and liked to walk. The sidewalk in front of our house had cracked and risen due to ash tree roots. The ash tree belonged to the city. My mother called Mr. Lazarenko’s office to complain about the fact she could fall and hurt herself if she tripped on the sidewalk. Mr. Lazarenko called my mother the very next day saying he wanted to meet her. Within a couple of days, he visited my mother, at our house, and viewed the sidewalk. After seeing the sidewalk, he had a city crew come over within another couple of days to repair the sidewalk. My mother’s meeting with Mr. Lazarenko and the repairs to the sidewalk were completed within a week. After the repairs were made, Mr. Lazarenko would give my mother an occasional phone call to find out how she was doing. My mother informed me every time he called her. My mother appreciated his phone calls and was very happy he had the sidewalk repaired. My condolences go out to the family. • I enjoyed working with Harry. Harry showed strong commitment to working people and protecting the public. He also respected his heritage and support for Ukraine and its culture.
