ERIC CHRISTOPHER JONES
March 27, 1972 - July 27, 2021
Eric was born at the Women's Pavilion in Winnipeg on March 27, 1972. He passed away on July 27, 2021 at the Selkirk General Hospital - Emergency Dept. He grew up, went to school and lived all his life in Selkirk.
After finishing high school in Selkirk, he went to the University of Winnipeg and then on to Red River Community College where he completed a diploma in Accounting. He then worked in the CIBC main office in Winnipeg. After that he went back to Red River and completed Computer Programming. He landed his dream job, working with computers as a web analyst for the provincial government in the Department of Infrastructure.
Unfortunately, he struggled with health issues all his life. He met those challenges, one after another, with bravery and courage. As he grew older his health challenges increased, and finally overwhelmed him. Throughout his life, when Eric encountered a seemingly insurmountable physical obstacle, he always figured out a way through or around it. He never gave up. He lived a very full life in spite of braces, then his scooter and finally his electric wheelchair. Eric faced life with unbelievable courage. And he was much loved by his family and everyone he befriended.
He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Maria Jones, his brother Brian Jones, his aunts and many cousins.
Due to Covid restrictions, a small private memorial service will be held at Gilbart's Funeral Home in Selkirk on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The funeral will be livestreamed on Gilbart's website.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada for Charcot-Marie-Tooth Syndrome Research.
Many, many thanks and sincere gratitude to all the home care workers, doctors and nurses who helped Eric over the years, and especially the private home care who were our "angels" during the last year.
Eric, your passing has left a giant hole in our hearts and our lives, but our memories and our love for you will fill that hole. May God wrap you in His everlasting arms.

I taught Eric when he was a student at Red River College in the early 2000s. He was such a pleasure to have in the classroom. I have thought of Eric often over the years. He was, without a doubt, the most inspiring person I have ever met. I was thinking about him the other day and decided to google him to see where his career and life had taken him. I was saddened to see this obituary. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends. My life is richer having known him. - Posted by: Laurie Cutrone (Teacher) on: Feb 14, 2024

Maria, Gerald, and Brian. My heart aches to hear the news of Eric’s passing. Please accept my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I feel very blessed that I had the opportunity to meet and work with Eric at the Province of Manitoba. The memories I have will be held close and cherished forever. When he started the job, he set a precedence working from home with the government. Eric proved his ability and commitment over and over again, even though there was hesitation by management at that time. The years we worked together, we shared wins and losses in whatever life tossed us. We became good friends, sharing good times, lunch out, and special occasions. Eric taught me about web design and accessibility. I realized my struggles were so minor compared to his. I admired his perseverance in keeping his independence, never giving up, no matter the struggle. His kindred spirit, strength and smile will remain with me. Eric, rest in peace and know I will miss you very much, until our paths cross again. ♥ “Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.” - Posted by: Kim Unrau ( Co-Worker/Friend) on: Aug 03, 2021

My sincerest condolences to Eric's family and friends on his loss. Eric was a complete pleasure to work with and I had a great deal of respect for him for wanting to contribute to the world despite his condition. He was intelligent and witty and made the best out of life that he could. Eric will be missed by myself and many others he worked with over the years at Manitoba Infrastructure. - Posted by: Dale Wuzinski (Co-worker and friend.) on: Jul 31, 2021
