REGINA DOERKSEN NEUFELD
March 1, 1919 July 29, 2021
She is survived by her sister, Susan Lumley; brother, George Derksen (Anne); her children, Ken (Carolee), Lorna (Andrew Braun), Audrey (Neil Rempel), Rick (Anne), Ruth, Connie, and Don (Agnes), daughter-in-law Charlotte, 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Neufeld; her son-in-law, Hugo Reimer; her chosen son, Fred Evans, and most of her siblings and peers.
Jean grew up near Niverville in a loving and godly home. Her desire to be a teacher meant leaving home for high school and teacher training. For four years she taught in the Grunthal and Kleefeld areas.
Regina asked Christ into her life at the age of 12, then at 17 she was baptized in the Niverville, MB church. She was an active member there throughout her life.
In 1943, she married John Neufeld and entered heartily into farming life. They were blessed with seven children and also welcomed Fred Evans into the family.
Regina and John were hospitable to friends, relatives and strangers. The grandkids loved coming to their place for sleep overs and holidays.
As the children left home, Jean found more time to express herself creatively. She did many paintings. She also wrote and published stories and articles of her life, her ancestors and local history.
In retirement Jean and John enjoyed travelling. Their trips often included a service opportunity, such as helping MCC or an orphanage or a church.
In November 1994, her husband passed away suddenly. The following year Jean settled into a suite in Niverville. In 2011, she moved to the "The Manor" in Niverville. Then in 2020, she entered Supportive Housing at Greendale Estates in Grunthal. The family is very grateful to the staff who cared for her lovingly and called her "Mama Jean."
A memorial service took place at the Hiebert Heritage Cemetery on Monday, August 2, 2021. She was laid to rest on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Niverville Heritage Cemetery.
