ANNE WINIFRED KUHN
(nee STORY)
Anne was predeceased by her parents, Captain Harry William Dixon Story at Penarth, Wales, UK, and Evelyn Mary (nee Hewison), at Ottawa, ON, Canada. Anne leaves behind her husband, Arthur Kuhn, three children and four grandchildren: Jonathan with Darlene in St. Joseph, Michigan, USA; David with April and grandsons, Liam and Ryan in Winnipeg; and Alison with Greg Vanlerberghe and granddaughters, Emma and Lauren in Toronto, ON.
Anne was born April 19, 1932, at Whitby, North Yorkskhire, UK, was raised as an only child in Whitby with her mother and relatives in her early years, while her father, Harry Story, a sea Captain, was away at sea much of the time. In 1937, Captain Story entered the Public Service as a nautical surveyor and the family relocated to London during the War. Anne completed her High School in London and, when Captain HWD Story was transferred to Liverpool, Anne trained as a Physiotherapist.
In 1955, Anne immigrated with a colleague to Canada with the intent to stay one year to see the country while paying their way working as physiotherapists. When they reached Calgary, Anne met Arthur Kuhn, on furlough from work as a Geophysical Trainee, and in due course they started married life, living in a house trailer prospecting for oil in Western Canada with Jonathan and David, as they arrived. In 1961, the family moved to Edmonton for Arthur to complete an MSc degree leading to Toronto, ON where Alison joined the family.
In 1966, Arthur joined the Federal Service and the Kuhn family relocated in Kanata, ON. During the 1970s and 1980s, the family settled into community life where the children completed their studies, developed their careers, married, and left home. Anne returned to Physiotherapy, first part-time with the Perley Hospital, and later, full-time with Ottawa-Carleton Health Services, until retiring in 1992.
While settled in Kanata, Anne's family started exchange visits with her parents at Penarth, Wales on a regular basis. Anne's retirement years provided happy times for her extended family with the opportunity for world travel, often accompanied by members of her family.
In 2017, in their mid-80s, Anne and Arthur relocated to Winnipeg, MB to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
On July 20, a service was held for Anne at the Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery. The homily was given by Reverend Darlene Kuhn, based on Proverbs 31: 10 - 31, "The Good Wife", with examples of her life that expressed this proverb. Her children, Jonathan, David and Alison recalled important times with their mother, proud and thankful of her love and devotion, and her husband, Arthur gave thanks for a wife he loved and respected and was loved in return.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation took place on July 20 attended by her extended family with a Celebration of Life to be held in August.
Her family would like to give sincere thanks to Dr. Mendoza and Dr. Mis, the nursing staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital, and home care for their kindness and compassion during the COVID-19 period.
