HAROLD (TRAPPER HARRY) BRUCE
June 17, 1934 - August 9, 2021

It is with sadness we announce Harold's passing on August 9, 2021.
Harold was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie Bruce; and his sister Mary Flinta (Bruce). He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Sandy Bruce and his wife Lynn, sister Elizabeth Clearwater and husband Bruce, cousins, and his nieces and nephews.
Harold was born and raised in Eriksdale. He always enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing with his father.
He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, later lived in Bissett, then retired to his cabin on Beresford Lake in the 1960's. Harold took over a trap line and was known as Trapper Harry. Trapping, hunting, fishing and wild rice harvesting was the life he loved. Harold lived a quiet and independent life. No telephone, hydro, or indoor plumbing. A spring near by provided water. There was no road to the cabin, water access only. His one concession to modern life was a satellite tv powered by a generator. Harold enjoyed watching sports especially hockey.
Harold enjoyed visits by family and friends, playing card games, horseshoes, and hours of fishing. Harold lived life on his own terms, strong willed and so independent.
Harold moved to Lac du Bonnet in 2013 due to health issues, then to Selkirk in 2018. He missed his Beresford life and all his good friends.
We were so fortunate to have had Harold in our lives. Family meant so much to him, and he meant so much to us.
Harold did not want a service.
We all have our treasured memories.

"Love the life you live.
Live the life you love"

  • Many fond memories of Harry. Calling from the shore and he came to pick us up. Wonderful roast duck and fried potatoes at his cabin. Jim, Harry and several others telling escapades of fishing and hunting stories. The woodchuck coming to the cabin door and waiting for its cookie. Deepest sympathy to the family.🙏 - Posted by: Joan Fox (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2021

  • Meany years have passed since visiting Harry at Beresford Lake. Honked the horn and Harry came with his boat to take us to his cabin. Harry was a special guy and just felt good been at his place. Don - Posted by: Don Chapel (friend) on: Aug 14, 2021
