MYRNA DARLENE GIEREK (POETKER)
Born an only child, as a leap year baby on February 29, 1936 in Mount Forest, Ontario, Myrna made her way to Manitoba in her 21st year where she settled in Winnipeg in 1957. Her husband Jake Poetker who was part of a family of 10 siblings and their spouses, embraced her with open arms into her new Manitoba family.
Myrna's primary joy were her four children, Tim, Rick, Wendy and Jared, and she cherished her eight grandchildren until the day of her passing. Following Jake's death in 2004, Myrna went on to have two more loving relationships with Roman Gierek and Ron Anderson.
Myrna juggled a hectic life raising her kids while having a career as an executive assistant with the Fort Garry Police Department and the Fort Garry School Division. A majority of her time with the Fort Garry School Division was spent as a secretary at Vincent Massey Collegiate, where she thoroughly enjoyed her work colleagues and the students.
Outside of work and family, Myrna had a passion for music and sang in choirs both at her church and in senior homes. Her other favourite activity was to relax at the cabin on Pelican Lake. Myrna's positive, enthusiastic attitude through the good and bad times will be missed by all.
A private family service has taken place with interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Messages of condolences may be left on Myrna's obituary page at www.neilbardalinc.com where a recording of the memorial service may also be viewed.

So sad to hear of Myrna's passing. When I was a Fort Garry Policeman, I remember her as a charming, cheerful lady and a hard working civilian member. No doubt she carried on as a treasured secretary at Vincent Massey Collegiate. On the amalgamation of police forces in 1974, I would get to meet a legendary Juvenile Div. officer Winnipeg Police Sgt. Roman Gierek, a brilliant artist who would become a comrade and friend as we took Police Artist courses together. After I retired in 1987 our family moved to B.C. and I lost touch with several of my Winnipeg Police Colleagues. Only today, I discovered two good natured folks, Myrna and Roman met and married. In Myrna's memorial to Roman's passing in 2013, she offers us a mirror to their great love... see Free Press Obituary Search: Roman Gierek, published May 1st, 2013... you will see a condolence there also from me. - Posted by: Dick Hickling (Colleague) on: Aug 14, 2021

My sincere condolences to Myrna's family. I stated working with the Fort Garry Police Department in 1964. Myrna joined our force shortly there after. She was a great lady with a wonderful personality. We stayed in touch on Facebook. Sorry to hear of her passing. RIP Myrna. - Posted by: Alex Stratton (Friends) on: Aug 14, 2021
