WILLIAM (BILL) S. P. PORTER
October 14, 1939 August 31, 2021
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patti, his two sons, Bill (Camille) with grandson Jordan of Winnipeg, and Jim, (Audrey) of Las Vegas, and his sister, Sydney Elizabeth Porter of Richmond Hill, Ontario.
Bill grew up in Winnipeg's Riverview district. He was gifted technically. As a young teenager, he built a multi-platformed tree house in their back yard, and later disassembled it to create a Tudor-style playhouse for his sister and her friends. In high school he took up photography, created a basement dark room, and, with a friend, took the grad photos for Churchill High School the year after he graduated. Bill found another outlet for his creative talents in model railroading, a lifelong hobby he passed on to his grandson.
Bill was a gifted artist and woodworker, designing their bedroom furniture in the Art Deco style, creating the atmosphere of a riverside bar in their basement, and crafting an outdoor patio which continues to be enjoyed by family and friends. In the 70s, Bill worked for his family business, then went on to work at Westeel, Bristol Aerospace, and later, Enconair, a job he found particularly fulfilling as he helped this local company expand to have a global reach.
Bill and Patti enjoyed travel throughout Europe and North America. Their most recent trip was to their favourite city, New Orleans, in 2016.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
