Following a long, valiant battle with cancer, Jeff passed away peacefully at the Salvation Army Rotary Hospice House, Richmond, British Columbia.
Jeff is survived by Lori Halat (life partner), siblings, Joelle Chelkowski (Ben) of St. Albert, Burt Malan (Deb) of Steveston, Kim Friesen (Cliff), Las Vegas, Tannis Miller (Brian), Kelowna, as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom adored him for his stories and great wit.
As a quiet, private man, Jeff requested no service after his cremation at the Richmond Funeral Home.

The greater our love,
the more painful our sorrow.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry to hear about Jeff's passing. Hoping that all the wonderful memories of this brother and friend will be of comfort to Tannis, Brian and the family. - Posted by: Nina Logan (friend) on: Oct 27, 2021

  • When we were young, the Malans lived down the street from us on Edison Avenue. I was Burt's classmate, but I had the pleasure of hanging out in the same crowd as Jeff. He was always thinking, with an introspective smile and when he talked, people listened to what he had to say. I was a small guy...with a big mouth and Jeff stuck up for me a couple times. I'll never forget how good a scrapper he was. Jeff was very wise, even in those early years. When we were teens, Jeff counselled me on matters pertaining to girls and it was sage advice, indeed. As I heard of Jeff's passing I became terribly saddened. I truly hope the ones you were closest to can overcome their grief and remember all the good you gave to them. Rest peacefully Jeff. - Posted by: Peter Kolodka (Childhood Friend) on: Oct 27, 2021
