John (Johann) Jaehrlich

John was born on March 10, 1929, in Josefstal, Russia, to Christine (Haas) and Friedrich Jaehrlich. In December, 1949, he immigrated to Canada with his mother and younger brother, William, who predeceased John in 2020. John married Eleonore (Kuhn) in 1951, and they had six children: Rosalinda (Lawrence Bittner),
Lili (Andy Boys), Friedrich, Angelika (Gerrit Timmerman), Gabrielle and Jonathan (Anita Staender). John and Eleonore, and their children, farmed in Kleefeld, Manitoba.
In 1979 the chicken farm was sold, and John and Eleonore moved with Jonathan to Tsawwassen, BC, where they lived the remaining years of their lives.
Eleonore predeceased John on April 29, 2005. John's close friend since 2006, Hildegard, predeceased John in 2019.
John's hobby was gardening, and he enjoyed many appreciative comments from passers-by about the trees and shrubs, and vegetable and flower gardens.
Besides gardening, he remained active, walking and puttering around outdoors.
In his later years he also sang in the German choir at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vancouver.
John is survived by his six children, five grandchildren (Sheldon, Lyndon and Wendelin Bittner, and Alexandria and Christopher Boys), six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law (Helen Jaehrlich), four nephews (Edwin, Arthur, Carl, and Paul Jaehrlich) with their extended families, as well as several friends and acquaintances.
John/Dad will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace with his Heavenly Father.
A private service was held on Tuesday October 26, 2021, at Boundary Bay Cemetery in Tsawwassen.
