LOUIS JOSEPH HARMEL
"Pop" is survived by his children, Jodi, Lorne, and Alf (Lynne), his grandchildren, Tyler, Ella, Dexter, Estelle, and Sam, sister-in-law Sera, her partner George, and her children, Marie, Joe, Joanne, and Nicki (Kitch), and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was a very much loved, admired and respected "Uncle Lou". He was predeceased by his parents, John Joseph Harmel and Eugenie Charbonneau, as well as his loving wife, Lani Harmel.
Our family was an extended one, and family gatherings with Lani and Sera, grandparents, children, and eventually nieces and nephews, were some of Pop's favourite moments. We are particularly grateful for the love Sera has shown for our Pop, and the support she provided him in his final years.
We would list his many accomplishments and glowingly describe his character, but he would dismiss all of it. We will say he lived life as consistently as any person could, showing up as his true self, with little, if any judgment of others, and an openness to embrace everyone he met as a friend. He was a good, caring and gentle man who will be missed by all who ever met him.
He was particularly proud of his time as a Freemason, being a member of Keystone #185 and Beaver Ionic #25 as Very Worshipful Brother, holding a position for one year as a Grandmaster. He would say his only regret about the craft was he joined too late in life. "Happy to meet, sorry to part, happy to meet again".
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, followed by a reception. Those who wish may join the livestreamed service by following this link: https://youtu.be/FJnYIocIndU Interment will follow the reception at Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
Government-issued proof of vaccination and photo identification for all attendees at the service and reception is required, by order of the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer. Masks are mandatory.

My family and I were sad to hear of Louis' passing. We are numerous cousins from Saskatchewan that never got to know each other very much, distance and family dynamics being a factor. We would like to express our heart felt sympathy and prayers. - Posted by: Madeleine Cote Lallier (Cousin) on: Apr 30, 2022

Brother Lou was a very respected friend and a true 'brother' to all Freemasons he met. He thrived by teaching, particularly the younger members, from his extensive knowledge, ability and dedication to the Masonic craft. He will be truly missed and remembered by us all. - Posted by: Peter Clarke (a Masonic Brother) on: Nov 03, 2021
