BERNICE MACTAVISH
(nee FRIESEN)
1928 - 2021
Bernice was born in Halbstadt, Manitoba to the late Cornelius and Sarah Friesen (nee Klippenstein). She was the third of eight children: Leonard, Doreen, Millie, Donnie, Iris, Janice and Jim.
The family mourns her loss, as she was a significant figure in the lives of all her family members. She enjoyed hosting many family meals which brought family from the USA, Australia, and across Canada together. Bernice was happiest when she could serve others.
Following her career in hairdressing, she stayed home and cared for her four children for 13 years, and later returned to work to care for Alzheimer's patients until she retired at age 58. Bernice made any task look easy, and the end result was always beautiful. Faith in God was very important to her. She loved her church community and was an active supporter of Grant Memorial Baptist Church for more than 40 years.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband of 68 years in 2018, Hugh John. She will be greatly missed by her children, Duncan, Wendy (Felix), Joy (Greg), and Stuart (Nancy); grandchildren, Barrington (Farnaz), Josh (Jackie), Brita, Dinah, Johnathan, Sierra (Beckett) and Andrew; great-grandchild Naomi; brother Jim; and many nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Simkin Centre for your care and kindness toward Bernice over her last few years.
As per Bernice's wishes, a private burial service has taken place in Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
A private family memorial service will take place in 2022.

Best friends with Joy for years and years; therefore, Mrs. M. was a big part of my life, like a special auntie. I always appreciated her hospitality and kind heart. A beautiful lady. - Posted by: B. Etherington (family friend) on: Dec 02, 2021
