GERTRUD ELFRIEDE OBENDOERFER
(nee WITTMANN)
January 22, 1936 - November 26, 2021
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Peter (Anne-Marie), Karin (David) and Thomas (Michelle); her grandchildren, Michael (Chie), Thomas (Simone), Patrick (Phil), Hannah Mary (Scott), Kristin (Luke), Julie, Robert, Jayme (Kyle), and Bradley (Kristin); and her precious great-grandchildren, Emma, Noa, Jack, Calvin, Blake and Loic; as well as her sisters, Hildegard, Gisela, Gerda and Baerbel-Monika (John); and her many nieces and nephews in Germany and the United States.
Gertrud grew up in Friedberg, Germany. She immigrated to Canada to marry Arno on December 26, 1959. They settled into their new home on Sinclair Street, built by Uncle Ernst Hansch in Winnipeg to raise their family. Trudy and Arno were actively involved with the German Society of Winnipeg, singing in the choir for over 30 years. Trudy was a dedicated stay-at-home mom who took great pride in her children's accomplishments, attending her children's recitals and concerts with much joy. She also loved working parttime during the tax season at Barthel accountants, where she formed many friendships. Travel was always a big part of her life. Family road trips, whether in Germany, Canada or the United States were always a summer highlight. After the kids had grown up, she often travelled to warmer climates, spending time in Mexico, Cuba, and Florida.
Gertrud loved her grandkids. She enjoyed taking them to parks and out for dinner. She was the life of the party at any family celebration. In her later years, Gertrud truly enjoyed living with daughter Karin and her family. She appreciated being part of the hustle and bustle in the house, at times even joining some late-night socializing with her grandchildren and their friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gertrud's name may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
