VAN MITCHELL ROY
June 4, 1954 - December 11, 2021
He will be greatly missed, forever remembered and loved by his wife, soulmate and best friend of 44 years, Carol; his sisters, Marie and Joyce; sisters-in-law, Elaine and Judie (Allan); goddaughter Paige; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Irene Roy and Elmer Kirkness and his brother Rob Roy.
Van was born, raised and lived in Winnipeg until four and a half years ago when he and his wife moved to the Petersfield area. Van loved to travel having been to Arizona, California, Mexico and Jamaica and would have loved to see more of the world. He loved his dogs, Barney and Jake and was always very involved in sports, hockey, broomball, weightlifting, slow pitch and golf which he really enjoyed. He was employed by the Winnipeg School Division for over 30 years, retiring in 2013.
Van was loved by everyone that knew him. He had a gentle soul, was kind and had a generous spirit. Although his health let him down the last few years he kept his kind spirit, sense of humour and positive attitude.
Should anyone wish, donations may be made to the Selkirk Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
The doctors, especially Dr. Prematilake and the nurses at the Selkirk Hospital were wonderful and patient treating Van with all his encounters with them. A special thank you to Rachel at the nursing clinic, you really cared.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall and www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk

My sincere condolences and prayers to the family. Van and I went to the same schools in the Gilbert Park area. We did many things together mostly sports. He was a loyal friend and a year older then me. Although a year older than me we remained friends. Over the years we ran into each and it was always a pleasant thing to see each other. It’s always my desire to see and met childhood friends, my prayers for comfort for his family. - Posted by: Alfred Flett (Childhood friend) on: Dec 18, 2021
