Condolences & Memories (46 entries)

  • My condolences Cathy, I just found out recently of Doug's passing. I will always appreciate his mentorship, friendship and laughter. I can remember a charity baseball game out in St. James between clinics; I was able to hit one over him that day, but his next up to bat, he simply creamed that ball over my head. Later, he said to me with a smile, 'you still have a lot to learn kid' and put his arm around me. I truly appreciated his mentorship as an employer, colleague, 'elder' on the PPPMI Board and friend. RIP Doug - Posted by: Chris Bisignano (colleague) on: Jan 05, 2023

  • I just found out today of Doug’s passing as I googled the clinic to make an appointment to see him. To say I am shocked is an understatement. This is terribly sad news and my heart goes out to his family. He never missed a chance to talk proudly of you all and lit up when speaking of his grandkids. He will be sadly missed. He was always such a professional and healer. I knew I could count on Doug to fix what hurt. Even though we are similar in age I will always remember how he would call me “kiddo” at appointments!!! Many hugs to Cathy and the rest of his family. He will be missed. - Posted by: Cheryl Ridley (Client) on: Jan 30, 2022

  • I did not know Doug well, our paths crossed briefly when Doug was a student physiotherapist. I was shocked to hear of Doug’s sudden passing. I am sending heartfelt condolences to Cathy and your family. Take care. Kathie Beach Nelson - Posted by: Kathie Beach Nelson (Colleague) on: Jan 11, 2022

  • I knew Doug from high school and beyond. He was a great guy with a good sense of humour and would do anything for you. I fondly remember the Y socials at the Copa with Doug and Sid, they were special. Doug died way too young. He will be remembered fondly. - Posted by: terry douglas (friend) on: Jan 10, 2022

  • Cathy and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I was never treated by Doug, I have several friends who were his clients. All had nothing but great things to say about him as a person and physiotherapist. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Gloria Mactavish (Client) on: Jan 10, 2022

  • I was deeply saddened to hear of Doug's passing. My most sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to Cathy, Grant, and family. My memories of Doug date back to EK YMCA days and the many antics we would get into including leadership and fun activities and participation In Men’s Water Polo team. Although separated by time and distance, we were connected by a friendship that dates back to the 1960’s. Doug was a good man always looking after others before himself and will be missed. Rest in peace, my friend. My mother Stephanie Kupskay of Winnipeg also expresses her deepest sympathies for your loss. • Dear Cathy, I'm so very sorry and deeply saddened for you, Trevor and your whole family! Dear Doug he was such a loving, wonderful and caring man and yes it's a shock to me to hear of his passing, like it must be for so many other people, family and friends who knew him so well! To me, he was so sweet like a "Caring Father" and always he would say to me before I would get up from the table: "Now take good care of yourself young lady" holding my face in his hands ever so gently! With much calmness and compassion in his voice, always he lifted my spirit with chuckles of joy that would make my day! Me and my Mom saw Doug for so many years, he was our number one physiotherapist and the very best at that! Doug was very caring to my Mom and for her he was so very special as she would tell me of his kindness! When no longer she could come to see him every time he would ask me how she was doing at the nursing home! I'm so very thankful to have known Doug, I will really much miss him! Doug Christie was truly the most special gift to all who have known him! "I pray to the Lord to take Doug in his arms and especially comfort and console his loving wife, children and grandchildren that he loved so very much!" My sincere condolence to you Cathy, Trevor and all the Christie Family! Louisa Lalonde - Posted by: Louisa Lalonde (Patient and Friend) on: Jan 05, 2022

I had known Doug since I was 18 years old, from our baseball games in E.K., to the socials in the basement of the “Y”, to our Frisbee tournaments at Moose Lake and the Danny MacKenzie golf tournaments. • It was with unbelief that we heard of Doug’s passing. We were neighbours for 32 years, great neighbours. He looked after our house for many years while we wandered the southern states during winter months and came over and helped us when we had muscle aches. We saw him just a week before his passing and he was so excited about the arrival of their new granddaughter. He will be missed. - Posted by: Wayne and Pat Moore (Friend, neighbour) on: Jan 02, 2022

  • Cathy, Trevor and Christie family. I am so sorry for your loss. May the good times you shared with Doug help to carry you through this difficult time. I was so shocked to hear of Doug's sudden passing. I had only seen him the day before in the clinic. He was not only a great physio, he was so kind and caring and treated me like a friend. • I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Doug’s sudden passing. My sincere condolences go to Cathy and their family. Besides helping alleviate my back problems for over 20 years, Doug and I spent considerable time discussing our children and hockey. He was a very sociable person and cared very much about his patients. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Donna Masson (Patient ) on: Dec 30, 2021

  • I first met Doug back in the late 1960's at Rossmere Curling club during all nite Junior bonspiels. I do not recall the team I was on ever winning against Doug's team but I may have won some money at the never ending poker games. Luckily when we moved back to Winnipeg in the mid 1990's we joined a Friday nite mixed curling league at Rossmere which, as luck would have it, Doug and Cathy belonged to same league. Once again we do not recall too many wins against the Christie's during our time in that league. Lots of laughs and memories from parties during our High School years. When Doug's son Trevor married our niece Hilary we often laughed how our lives had become interwoven over the 50 plus years we knew each other. Doug, truly was one of the good guys, a gentleman and will be missed by his many friends, relatives and extended family. • My sincere condolences Cathy, son Trevor and family. I am shocked to hear of Doug's passing. Whenever my hip would give me trouble I went to see Doug. One treatment usually took care of the problem. Doug also became a good friend and we both enjoyed golf and would always have conversations around golf. I will forever be grateful for fixing my hip issue. Al Kehler - Posted by: Al Kehler (Friend and patient ) on: Dec 26, 2021

  • A series of sessions with Doug Christie over the course of five to six years has me beginning my day with a regime of exercises that keep various parts of my body working properly. The exercises I am sure are nothing special, but the advice and direction metered out by Doug during my visits to his clinic were exceptional. He cared about his patients and took great joy in making us better- both in body and mind. He was direct and precise with his recommendations and quick to dispel any questionable treatments we offered up that would be useless or harmful. He contributed to the well being of his patients in a meaningful way and will be missed. Condolences to his family and friends. Ted Muir-patient - Posted by: ted muir (patient) on: Dec 25, 2021

  • Cathy, Trevor, Karen, and Brett, Gregg and I am so very sorry, saddened, and shocked to learn of Doug’s passing. Being cottage neighbours with the Christie Family, we became not only friends but family. Doug introduced me to windsurfing many years ago, and I have fond memories of surfing with him at Otter Falls. Although we have not spent a lot of time together since the Christies left Otter Falls, we still have wonderful memories of time spent with our “extended family”. We will always remember Doug as a kind, gentle, caring man who lived life as it should be lived. He loved his family dearly and spoke of his kids and grandkids with pride and a twinkle in his eye. Wishing you strength during this very very difficult time. Desiree & Gregg Derlago (friends & cottage neighbours) - Posted by: Desiree Derlago (friend & neighbour) on: Dec 25, 2021

  • Rita and I send our love and heartfelt condolences to Cathy and family at this very difficult time. • Doug Christie, physiotherapist, was introduced to me by my family doctor about 20 years ago. I had a number of vertebral fractures and no one had been able to help me. The first time I went to see Doug, I was in so much pain that I could hardly move without crying.. I believe that I was a challenge even for an experienced practitioner like Doug Christie. Yet, from that same day, he gave me hope of recovery. Having seen Doug regularly, I can say that at 83 years of age, I am almost pain free and still able to get around. Over the years, our friendship grew and each time after a fall or fracture when I thought recovery was impossible, Doug was always there for me, giving me not just treatment, but hope and encouragement. He was very positive no matter how bad my physical situation was and he was always right. Doug was a very kind and gentle person not just to me but to all his patients. He cared not only for our physical needs. Going to see Doug was like going to meet a friend. We chatted about just anything. Knowing I am a Catholic and a church goer, Doug would ask me to pray for him and his family sometimes when there was a need and update me on my next visit. I sure will miss him. I pray the Lord to grant him eternal rest and comfort his wife, family and friends who will surely miss him a lot. Doug, say "Hi" to Jesus for me. - Posted by: Claire Chenier (Doug's patient and friend) on: Dec 23, 2021

  • So sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I had lost contact with Doug after my retirement years ago. I first met Doug & Cathy in the early 90's while I was the Branch Manager of a local Credit Union. Over the ensuing years, Doug & I became good friends, and always found time to have an annual home & away golf outing. Doug was very well known in his profession and I know personally that he mentored many up & coming Physiotherapists. I'm a little older than Doug, but this I know for sure, 70 is way too young to depart this life. No doubt he still had many things to do on his 'to do list'. R.I.P.
