IRENE ANNE GRIFFITH
April 7, 1946 - December 18, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of wife, mother, and Baba Irene Anne Griffith (nee Stefishen). Mom passed on December 18, 2021 at 3:49 a.m. at the Pinawa District Hospital.
Mom grew up in Komarno, Manitoba along with her six brothers who she truly loved with all her heart. Mom and Dad married on October 14, 1961 and eventually moved to Transcona where she flourished and shined with her career at Woolco. When Mom wasn't working she was decorating her home, shopping and entertaining. Had a passion for hairstyling, camping and worked endlessly on her flowerbeds. Mom's passion was dancing especially to country and Ukrainian music. She was a whirlwind on the dance floor. She loved listening to Elvis, Abba, Faron Young and CCR while cleaning the house or ironing. She enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends; no one ever left Mom's house hungry.
Her greatest love and joy was being a baba and great-baba.
She was preceded by her parents, Steve and Pauline Stefishen; brothers, Gordon, Ernie, and Brian; sister-in-law Linda Stefishen and nephew John Stefishen.
Left to mourn Mom are her husband George of 60 years; daughter Gwen (Ron) and son Keven (Michelle); grandchildren, Lance, Derek, Rebeca (Cody) and Kyle (Kay-lee); great-grandchildren, Brooke, Lily, Scarlett, Aaron, Reese, Penelope and Natalie; brothers, Gerry (Pearl), Bob, Larry (Debbe) and sister-in-law Ruth Stefishen; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She will also be missed by Lisa, Melissa, Holly and many beautiful friends.
Thank you to the staff at Pinawa Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and as per Mom's wishes, there will be no service.
Mom was a country girl at heart. Her memory will live on at the Little Red Barn.

MISS ME BUT LET ME GO
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free!
Miss me a little - but not for long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this journey that we all must take
And each must go alone;
It's all a part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me, but let me go.

  • My sincerest condolences to Irene's entire family on their loss. Mrs. Griffith was my manager at Woolco from 1976 to 1981, where I worked nights. She was always fair and professional, yet caring, compassionate, and a load of fun. Her Christmas staff parties at her home were amazing -- lots of food, games, dancing, and laughter! I've often thought back fondly to my first job at Woolco, and wondered how the later years fared for her. Family was always her greatest pride and joy, and it sounds like her final years were full of love and loved ones. She was a lovely lady! - Posted by: Shannon Plischke (Former co-worker) on: Dec 25, 2021

  • Mr. Griffith, Gwen and Kevin. So sorry to hear of Irene's passing. I remember her very well! A beautiful, classy lady. She was like our second Mom to all the kids in the neighborhood. We always partied at their house. Many fond memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. ❤️ - Posted by: Maura Enns(Prout) (Old neighbor ) on: Dec 24, 2021

  • Our hearts and thoughts are with you George, Gwen and Kevin and the entire family at this time. So hard to sum up Irene. She had a smile that lit up every room she entered, and the energy she had radiated off of her like a thousand suns. So many stories, and so many memories. As I spent many weekends as a teenager with Gwen and Kevin in the Griffith household, one never knew what Irene had in store for you. It could be wall papering with her latest find, or moving furniture. But it was worth every moment, especially when George got home to watch his reaction. The polkas and dances, this is the Irene and the memories I also hold of her. Rest in peace sweet lady, and have a polka for us.
