INGE HECK

Inge Heck passed away peacefully, December 17, 2021, just shy of her 92nd birthday. She was a loving mother to Angela (Ivan Hughes), an Oma to Thea and Toby, and wife to Wolf, who predeceased her in 2017.
Born in 1930 she experienced the ravages of war firsthand. She was a young girl during the Second World War, a refugee in her own country, and eventually, an immigrant to Canada where she came with an adventurous spirit, a young love, and $10 in her pocket. She loved Winnipeg and exploring the prairie landscape. A life-long learner, she reveled in the arts and books. Inge always said "Don't be sad when I die. I have had a good life. I had a good husband, a lovely daughter, and beautiful grandchildren. What more can someone want?"
Her life was lived with caring, compassion and humility, as a dedicated mother, loyal friend, and enthusiastic volunteer. She remained a staunch activist for peace throughout her life and an active letter-writer to politicians, editors, and corporate leaders. She often reminded us that we can't change the entire world, we can only change how we react and interact with one another. Inge showed us that "going forward with kindness" and "doing the best we can" are very powerful acts indeed.
Thank you to the kind and caring staff at Thorvaldson Care Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.

What is grief if not love persevering?

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I first met Inge in 1968. She and Wolf were close neighbours of ours. She was a wonderfully kind neighbour and always interested in what our children were doing. My children loved her. We often had great conversations and often I would visit them and we would discuss politics. We left Winnipeg in 1997 but whenever I came back to visit, she and Wolf were always pleased to see me. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Anne Henderson (Friend and neighbour) on: Dec 29, 2021

  • One of the best neighbours at 1 Snow Street. Inga and Wolf were always ready with pleasant greetings...and long coffee breaks.... - Posted by: Alf Chorney (former neighbour) on: Dec 26, 2021
