JOHN THOMAS HOULDEN
January 19, 1924 December 27, 2021
He leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, Dora; and his nine children and their families, Robert (Susan), Gail (Garth), Grace (Lyle), Cheryl (Kevin), Darlene (Tom), Nancy (Bill), John Jr. (Pam), Michael (Cheryl) and Grant (Ingrid).
Some of Dad's proudest moments include serving in the British Navy during the Second World War, starting a successful running career at the age of 48 and continuing until the age of 90 when he ran his last Canadian 55+ Games. Mom and Dad found a way to secure the Lambert Family homestead in St. Laurent in 1965 creating many cherished memories over the years and for many years to come.
Dad was a hard-working family man who helped instill a strong work ethic in all his children. We are forever grateful for that. He had a "MacGyver" do it yourself solution to every problem. Made you laugh sometimes... but it always seemed to work.
We will miss you Dad! A part of you will live on in each one of us.
Sincere thanks to all the hospitals involved in his care. He was treated with dignity and respect.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Sending my deepest condolences to all of John Houlden's Family. Met John and the family when his daughter Nancy married my brother Bill in 1981. Got to know him and Dora when they moved into the same apartment as us in about 2005. With me he would say hi, but I had to start the conversation, but with my John they would talk and talk, sometimes Dora would have to come down stairs to check on him. Would see him walking everyday, quite often with Dora when they lived here. Towards the end of their stay before they moved to Amber Meadows, you could see him walking all around our parking lot. He truly was a Great Man. He will be missed by so many people. - Posted by: Denise Funk (Friend) on: Jan 01, 2022
