VALDIS CAMILLA CAMPBELL
(nee ANTONIUS)
December 13, 1927 - December 24, 2021

Peacefully, at her home, after an afternoon spent saying goodbye to her children, Mom left to join her husband, parents and many others who went before her.
Having just celebrated her 94th birthday, Val was the last of her generation, having been predeceased by her husband Colin Ross Campbell; parents, Stigur and Magdelana Antonius of Baldur; and siblings, Doris, (McQuade) Albert, Steve, Wilmar and John.
Val was born on the farm near Baldur with a love of nature and horses. As a young woman she graduated from Normal School in Winnipeg and moved to Bethany, MB to teach. There she met Ross and they were wed in 1949. Working the farm with Ross and raising four children, she was strong beyond her stature and a giving member of the local community. As the children grew and left, she had time to pursue her love of art and even returned to teaching. Relocating to Winnipeg in 1986 to be closer to the grandkids, Ross and Val fostered friendships in Crestview and later in St. Norbert. When Ross passed, she became the first resident in Lindenwood Terrace, where she was independent into her 90s. Her final years were spent at Brightwater Tuxedo and despite losing some mobility, she retained her sense of humour and sharp mind.
She is survived by her children, Ken Campbell (Pam), Coleen Deslauriers (Wayne), Ron Campbell (Cathy) and Lawrence Campbell (Susan); grandchildren, Lincoln, Tara, Jennifer, Kristopher, Heather, Whitney, Chantal, Megan and Michael. There are also many great-grandchildren as well as countless nieces and nephews who will remember her loving and generous soul.
The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Brightwater Tuxedo for their compassionate and attentive care of mom over the past three years. Thanks also to Marylou, Barbara, Marcella and other companions who helped keep mom sharp and happy. Mom beat Covid in 2020, but its current restrictions have meant that her memorial (livestreamed) and interment must be small family only events.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Crohn's and Colitis Canada - in memory of her 40 year struggle with, and dominance over, that disease.
To Val, family was everything and she was everything to us.
