RICHARD M. SOBIE
May 23, 1946 December 29, 2021
Richard passed away at the age of 75 of cancer.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Linda, son Paul (Brodie), sisters, Bernadine Brown, Jennifer Shymko and a brother, Jeffery.
He was predeceased by his father Michael in 2001, mother Adeline in 2012 and sister Marilyn Robb in 1997.
Richard loved the martial arts. His goal was to become a Black Belt, which he achieved. He loved to play the drums with his cousins, Stan, Julian and Greg. Biking and walking became a routine for him.
In his career, he worked at different jobs, eventually working at Bristol Aerospace in the Heat Treating Department and was promoted to an Inspector where he remained until his retirement at 40 years of service in March 2007.
"To grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It is only awhile that we must part, I won't be far away for life goes on, and so if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see me or touch me, I'll be near.
And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome home"".

Big Uncle Richard was my favorite uncle. He and I practiced karate in his basement. He was always funny and never in a bad mood. Even when we chased his cat "Q", desperate to pet the cranky cat. I think he is the only black belt to walk a cat on a leash. And he always let us play in the sprinklers when it was hot. And had a water bed ready for me and my sister. I used to cry for about an hour of the drive when we left his and Auntie Linda's house to go back to B.C. Aunt Linda and Paul; I am very sorry for your loss. I know the weight of your loss. He was a huge personality with an even bigger heart. My deepest condolences. đź’” - Posted by: Lesley Yeung (niece) on: Feb 15, 2022

Condolences to Mrs. Sobie and Paul. I grew up with Paul and we were teammates and best friends. Mr. Sobie was always stern but fair and as we grew older and less irritating he always had to time to talk or help out. He and my dad shared a mutual respect which made me like him even more. We all respected him. Godspeed Mr. Sobie and Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Kevin Smith (Friend of the family) on: Jan 11, 2022

My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Linda, Paul and all the Sobie family. I have SO many memories of Richard….he was the “cool” cousin who played the drums and rode a motorcycle. What great memories of summers at Gull Lake, when all the cousins would meet in the lodge. Richard had his drum pads and we all danced to the tunes (Mellow Yellow, Hurdy Gurdy Man) that were playing on that big green radio. Rest In Peace, dear cousin. You were loved! 💕💕💕 - Posted by: Joanne Kostyra (Cousin) on: Jan 09, 2022

Richard was a special cousin to me. His Dad was my Dad's youngest brother. And although Richard was three years younger, he and I grew up in Winnipeg's North End. I remember the sleepovers we had at 497 before Jeff came along when I would tell a few scary stories for fun. Richard's humour and playfulness came easily because he grew up in a home where there was constant laughter and joking. I will remember Richard for his friendship and respect for others. He loved his family --each and every one of them. Richard, thanks for being a loyal and loving cousin. May you rest in peace.... - Posted by: Chris and Gerry Sobie (cousin) on: Jan 09, 2022

Hey Big Richard, Will miss you and all the things you did. Learning to cook, while on days! Yan Can Cook, you watched faithfully and boy you were a great student. But as my Mom always remarked, we are all going to die, it was your turn. My sister Lorraine and Little Richard, Larry, Leonard and Ken were at the gate cheering you in along with my parents and yours. All the cats on earth will surely feel your loss, maybe now you can get close to Sigfried and Roy's cats. You made me laugh with that tale of going to Las Vegas and watching them and psp psp the kitten from your seat. They reprimanded you and you stopped. What a story and so like you! We will all meet again and I look forward to that day! Love Kathy - Posted by: Kathy St Germain (Sister-in-law) on: Jan 09, 2022

Linda and Paul, Richard’s passing is such a great loss for our family but especially for you. You were a wonderful family that did so much together. Richard was an incredible brother that truly loved his family. He never missed a birthday or anniversary and always sent cards and phoned us on those special occasions. He attended every birthday, wedding, baptism, and Meet and Greet amongst our family. Conversations with Richard were always interesting and very humorous! He was very sentimental and was always proud to show pictures of family and friends. He will be truly missed by all of his family including his precious cats, Ceegee and Jaxon. Mom, Dad and Marilyn are blessed to have his company now. Our heartfelt sympathies and love. - Posted by: Jen, Glenn and families (Sister) on: Jan 08, 2022

My condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Sobie family. My fondest memory of Richard were of the rides home from church in his big 1960 red Ford convertible, may he rest in peace, now and then when there is a thunder storm, you will know it is Stan and Richard beating out a tune.
