ELIZABETH (BETTY) MARY JOHNSTON
1928 - 2021
It is with sadness and joy that the family of Elizabeth Johnston announce her passing peacefully on December 30, 2021.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Desmond (2015) whom she followed to Canada from her birthplace in Ireland in 1953 and married in 1954. She leaves behind her children, Anne (Bob), Michael, David (Patti), Kieran (Ann-Marie), 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Betty spent her life accomplishing goals and caring for others. She had a full-time career at the Bank of Nova Scotia while earning a university degree in Sociology (at age 59). She was a school board president at St. Boniface Diocesan High. Betty was also a member of Christ the King Parrish for over 65 years where she volunteered in several ministries as well as serving as president of the Catholic Women's League. She collected for CancerCare door to door, gave her time to teen suicide prevention phone lines and was a block parent. She even had a couple of occasions to use her First Aid training to help at serious accident scenes. Oh, and in her spare time she and Dad travelled the world.
Betty lived life to the fullest; she loved her family, her friends and gave unselfishly of herself to strangers, most of whom she would never meet.
If you wish to honour Betty's life, help a stranger, and expect nothing in return.
God Bless you Mom and
Rest in Peace with the Lord.

Good-bye, my friend Betty. And my condolences to her family. She was proud of all of you. We often compared our travel experiences. We so enjoyed our many parties, either to organize our Christ the King school socials or New Year's Eves. Rest in Peace. Eva - Posted by: Eva M Haddad (Friend) on: Jan 08, 2022
