DENNIS HEWITT
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Dennis Hewitt, on January 4, 2022, at the age of 74 after a brief acute illness, but long-time challenges with diabetes and its complications.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Heni and his cherished daughter Nadya; brothers, Alger (Corrine) and John; and brothers-in-law, Greg and Tom; stepsiblings, Denise, Lillian and Emil; numerous nieces and nephews; and the close and special friends who became the family of his heart (Berta and Diana, the Allans, Barb-ara, Britton, Lenny, the Lukies and the Molinskis). He is predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Douglas; parents-in-law, Leda and Henry Podealuk; and his siblings, Donald and Deanne.
He had the opportunity to work with many people across Canada throughout his career as a chef, and he made friends wherever he went. Dennis loved getting together to play games such as bridge, cribbage and Rummoli. He lived to cook and share his love of food. He was always there for a celebration, a libation, or a practical joke, and to raise his voice to toast (or roast) in good humour.
Dennis was joyful, boisterous and generous of his time and his culinary skills, and was famous for his meat pies. Dennis could make people laugh, sometimes as much in shock at his astute and irreverent observations, as with his guffaws that genuinely exploded out of him at every opportunity. He felt the love for his wife, daughter, and friends as deeply as he expressed his joy. He will be forever remembered for his quick wit, sense of humour, love of family and friends, and kind heart.
Special thanks to Dr. Nick for his ongoing support; and to Dr. Walmsley and the medical staff, emergency medical technicians and paramedics in Beausejour, who cared for Dennis in his final hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, or Tree Canada.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My heartfelt condolences to Heni, Nadya, Alger,John, the Podealuk and Lavallee families. Dennis was always full of love and energy. I will always remember the family time at Grandpa Joe and Aunty Jessie’s with him at the St. Laurent home. Most of all I will cherish the time spent with you all in Vancouver the summer of 1974. Whenever we met it was like no time had passed and we picked up like it was just yesterday we saw each other. It was that strong family bond that kept us dear to one another. You will be forever missed and always loved my Dear Den. RIP - Posted by: Sheila Wheeler (nee Lavallee) (Step niece) on: Jan 08, 2022
