HELEN ANN RANALLO (PROKOPCHUK)
August 8, 1942 – December 29, 2021

Our beloved mother, baba, sister, cousin and friend has gone. Missing Helen are her sister Elaine and brother Ted, her daughters Amber (Craig) Ostermann and Leanne (Dylan) Sinclair, grandchildren Owen, Gwen, Charlotte and Ellis, sister-in-law Cathy (Jack) Morris, best friends Anita, Roberta and Heidi and many others who loved her dearly.
Helen loved her family more than anything else. She was always there to take care of us; she just couldn't sit still. Her cars put on many, many miles as she drove back and forth almost daily to help raise her grandchildren, especially after retirement. She immensely enjoyed her fabulous best friends and their many adventures. Her emotions rose and fell with the successes and failures of the Jets and Bombers and she instilled in her children that sports activities are essential to a happy life. She could regularly be found at a rink, a soccer field, a dance studio, a school or daycare where everyone just called her Baba. Her faith guided her and her Ukrainian traditions were passed down. On holidays, there was always room at the table for extended family and friends so no one would be alone. Throughout her life, Helen taught us a valuable lesson, how to care for others even when you don't have much yourself.
Helen was born to Tinnie and Tony Prokopchuk in Dauphin, Manitoba and spent her years in Zoria, Trenton (New Jersey) and Winnipeg. When cancer came for Helen, she faced her illness with bravery and strength, the same attributes she used to face every challenge throughout her life–like moving to a new country, single parenting or working multiple jobs to provide for her family–along with the many wonderful celebrations she experienced–like purchasing her own home, the weddings of her daughters and the births of her grandchildren. She fought so hard to make it more than two years from her diagnosis to have more precious time with the ones she loved.
Helen was a beautiful person both inside and out and we will miss her forever. Baba, we love you.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angelman Syndrome Foundation www.Angelman.org.
