KARL LARRY OLSON
With his life's work well done, Larry, aged 78 years, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2022 at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
Larry was born in Winnipeg, MB and raised on Peonan Point for the first eight years of his life, then moved into the town of Steep Rock, MB where he attended school and met and married the love of his life Gail Hare. They resided in Steep Rock, raising their two children Patrick and Penny. Dad lived most of his entire life there. Dad loved hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
In earlier years, he ranched with his father, uncle and brother on Peonan Point. In 1967, he started employment with Canada Cement (Lafarge). In 1982 he became the Plant Superintendent and retired in 1997. At that time, he constructed a large shop in his yard where he performed mechanical and welding services for the community and area. Dad loved to manufacture many things. He was so very talented and his work came in high demand. Just ask the local farmers!!
Dad was featured in the 1982 TIME magazine by Canada Cement as an employee involved in work, hobbies and community activities. He was presented a Canadian Volunteerism award in 2013 on his 70th birthday.
Dad is predeceased by his wife Gail and sister Darlene, both passing in 2015.
Dad is survived by his son Patrick (Kathleen); daughter Penny (Kelvin) Hopgood; grandchildren, Steven (Codi), Brandon (Jessica), Hayley (Nelson) and Lucas; sister Margaret (Brian) Snidal and brother Oli; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Eriksdale Personal Care Home for making dad's stay as caring, comfortable and peaceful as possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations can either be made to either CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
A memorial service in celebration of dad's life will be held in the Spring of 2022.
