PEARL SUBEDAR
August 29, 1924 – January 26, 2022

After living a life of strength, grace, courage, humility, and charity for nearly 100 years, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Pearl Subedar, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. She will be remembered and missed by many.
Pearl is survived by her daughter Mary; daughters-in-law, Paula and Indra; sons, Rajendra, Dyanand, Rabindranath, Rudranath, and Ashoka; grandchildren, Sherlock, Ryan (Julie), Vanessa (Jeff), Shannon (Guy), Justin, Dianande, Ashton, Shanti, Satara, Karina (Clay), Ashoka, and Akeshia; great-grandchildren, Mary, Shayla, Simon, Jaxon, Zenon, Isaiah, Rowan, Alexander, Eviana, Zara, Clay, Adrian, and Gabriel; and great-great- grandchildren, Joseph, Mya Sky, Morning Sun, Makade, Vienna, and Xander. Also left to mourn are her brothers, Mervyn, Selwin, and Roosevelt, sister Ula, and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews from Alberta to Ontario, New York, Barbados, and her place of birth Trinidad and Tobago. She was predeceased by her husband Mandath, her son Lindrum, and daughter Syntra.
Known for her humility and charity, she lived a life of devotion to her faith and to others, reading her prayer book daily for 70 plus years; and caring for others, from her own family to children of the neighbourhoods in which she lived over her life, to the homeless and destitute, where she could reach them. While this is a very sad occasion, we are thankful that our mother and grandmother lived 97 fruitful years, on her own terms and on her own steam, independently at home until her passing.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Our grandma Pearl was a remarkable woman, selfless (always putting others needs before her own), beautiful inside and out, courageous, articulate, extremely intelligent, so much so that although she was almost a whole century old, her mind was still intact and she remembered with detail, things that over time some people would forget or overlook. I never did get to beat her at Scrabble as she was "The master" with words and knew exactly how to rake in the most points, she would tell me, "why are you playing there, you can get more points there." She was the strongest woman I knew, she lived a content life and was faithful to our Lord no matter what life threw at her. We would spend countless hours over the phone reminiscing about her life in Trinidad as well as the 20 years spent up North before settling in Winnipeg. She would talk about the beautiful multi-colored butterflies that would fly over her head while she ran around in the cocoa plantation saying "if I wanted to see one that I better get over there." She would say that this is how a child should grow up, carefree and naturally and to enjoy the simple things in life as that was all that mattered. I would ask her how she could handle moving from an island country to Canada's North where it was so frigid, her response was, "It wasn't that cold, the trees provided us with insulation." So although her life was changed drastically when she emigrated here, she was an expert of looking at the positive side of things and she helped anyone she could, in my opinion, she was like a missionary as she made a profound impact on so many lives. I will cherish the many memories that my own family made with her and if I could be half the woman that she strived to be, then I know that I will be fine even though losing her on this Earth is not easy. Thank- You grandma for teaching me so much and I will instill in my children Alexandre, Evyanna and Zahra what you taught me. Hugs and kisses sent to heaven from Dianande, my husband of 20 years and your grandson Benjamin and your grandchildren Alexandre, Evyanna, Zahra and Lucy. Until we meet again. - Posted by: Dianande (Granddaughter) on: Feb 01, 2022
