KACHUR: Marlene Jo-Anne (née McLaren). January 11, 1943 January 19, 2022. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Kachur. Marlene was born in Virden, MB to Harold and Gladys McLaren. She married Leighton Kachur in 1962 and they resided in Shoal Lake, MB where they raised their children and also had an accounting and real estate business for 30 years. They retired early to travel, however, in the third year of retirement Marlene was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1994 and given a maximum of 19 years. So started the battle of many other illnesses to follow including many rounds of chemo, diagnosed with Squamous Cell skin cancer in 2007, Lung Cancer and surgery to remove part of one lung in 2016, Sepsis in 2014 and a lung collapse 2018. In 2018 Dr. Johnston, her oncologist, tested her with a new chemo drug that after 16 months resulted in her blood test results from Seattle and the Mayo Clinic showing no Leukemia cells, finally in remission. Marlene wanted to sincerely thank her doctors in this journey: Dr. Loader, Dr. Muller in Brandon Cancer Care and Dr. Johnston in Winnipeg. They looked after her so well and treated her with special care. She also wanted to thank the drivers and staff at Wheels of Hope for arranging the many trips for her treatments, you all meant so much to her. Marlene was predeceased by her parents and oldest son, Mark. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Leighton; three children: Shannon, Tracy and Cory (Noreen); daughter-in-law, Wanda; grandchildren: Darwyn (Mary), Britany (Lukas), Logan, Clinton, Nicole, Tara and great-grandchildren Jackson and Brooklyn. She also leaves to mourn her three siblings: Barbara (Ron) Funk, Terry (Al) Deutsch and Bill (Shirley) McLaren plus many nieces and nephews. Marlene enjoyed life to her fullest capabilities and was always upbeat and cheerful. She made many special friends in her lifetime, including at her last residence of Lions Manor. She valued all of your friendships. A graveside service will take place in the spring to celebrate Marlene's life. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, it was Marlene's wish that you make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba, 193 Sherbrook St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, in memory of her.
