KATHLEEN MARY JANET (BUNTY) MCDONALD
(nee WILSON)

Peacefully at Misericordia Place, Winnipeg on January 27, 2022, at the age of 98.
Janet was born on June 13, 1923, daughter to Arthur and Gwendoline Wilson in Winnipeg.
Predeceased by her parents, brother Ronald, and her husband of 57 years, Ian. She is survived by four sons, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Son Jock (Christine) of Okoboji, Iowa, grandchildren James (Kelly) of North Liberty, Iowa, great-grandchild Henry, grandchild Shelagh (Joe) Gamble of Minnetonka, Minnesota, great-grandchild Madeline, grandchild Stuart (Mia) of Chicago, Illinois, Son Jamie (Arlene) of St. Albert, Alberta, grandchild Jennifer (Mark) Walkingshaw of Edmonton, Alberta, great-grandchild Theia, grandson Daniel of Edmonton, son Robert (Susan) of Thornbury, Ontario, grandchildren Stephanie of Thornbury, Ontario, grandchild Dustin of Toronto, Ontario, grandchild Gabriel (Jessica) Helbig of Ajax Ontario, great-grandchild Henry, grandchild Shashonnah (Jeremy) Shea of Cambridge, Ontario, great-grandchildren Tristan, Parker, and Harrison, Son Doug (Alison) of Vancouver, B.C., grandchildren Amy and Lindsey.
Bunty was raised in Winnipeg, attending Grosvenor School, Robert H Smith for Jr High and completing High School at Rupertsland. She also began a longtime involvement with Girl Guides of Canada at this time. As the Second World War, began she visited the Keewatin summer camp of her Aunt Edie and Uncle Lal Denison, who invited her to attend the annual Yacht Club Dance with them. Aunt Edie spotted an on-leave Army officer, son of a friend, and asked him if he would dance with her niece. Ian McDonald complied and on returning to his family's cottage after the dance, informed his mother that he had found the woman he was going to marry. The rest, as they say, is history.
After the war Janet and Ian started their family life in Port Arthur, and then moved to Prince Albert, SK where their last two children were born. Janet and Ian loved lakes and water and built a cottage at Waskesiu Lake which they enjoyed with family and friends. In 1958, they returned to Winnipeg for Ian's work, and built a cottage on Lake of the Woods at Clearwater Bay where friends were always welcome.
Wherever Janet and Ian were, they always had a strong connection to the Anglican Church. In Winnipeg, St George's Anglican Church became a focus where Janet served on many committees and supported other activities. One cherished involvement was being a member of the celebrated "Dragon Ladies" who organized and ran fundraising dinners and auctions with memorable energy and infectious enthusiasm.
Very important to Janet was supporting her family of four busy boys. They always had the support and guidance they needed for hockey, football, sailing, or anything else. Their friends were always welcome at the McDonald's.
The McDonald family would like to thank the coworkers of Lindenwood Manor and Misericordia Place for their exemplary care.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church at a later date.
