I met Bert at the aviation museum, and would often spend time with him as he sorted through the thousands of nuts and bolts the museum had, a job that would have driven me crazy, but he seemed to enjoy. While sorting the nuts and bolts, he would recall his days during and after the war. He was a remarkable gentleman. You have earned your rest, Bert. I will miss your stories. - Posted by: John Horner (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2022

To Family, I met Bert through the Naval Museum. He was a great person, always had a smile or a joke. He loved being around people and in turn was loved by all who knew him. With deepest sympathy, Anita Chapman - Posted by: Anita Chapman (friend) on: Feb 15, 2022

I had the pleasure of knowing Bert through the St. James Legion. He was always a regular at our Friday night meat draw along with his son. He always had a smile and a welcoming handshake. He will be sadly missed. We referred to him as the Admiral. Rest In Peace. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning we will remember them. Thank You for your service Sir. - Posted by: Ken Morley (friend) on: Feb 12, 2022

Bert and I were both members of the White Ensign Naval Club and also volunteers at the Naval Museum in HMCS Chippawa. and have been for a number of years. Bert was always willing to get involved in many projects that came along and was a very good worker. He loved wood working and was very good at it. It has been a pleasure knowing and working with you Bert. Good winds and gentle seas in your journey to a quiet Port. - Posted by: Robert A. Watkins (Shipmate) on: Feb 12, 2022

I first met Bert in the spring of 2018 while volunteering at the Aviation museum and was very impressed at his attention to detail of the tasks assigned to him. His stories about his time in the Canadian Navy brought back memories of my dad’s time served in the RCN. Bert was truly part of Canada’s greatest generation. Fair winds and following seas my friend, we have the watch. Ready, aye ready. - Posted by: Alan Mulholland (Friend) on: Feb 12, 2022
