JENNY CARTER

Jenny Carter of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on January 20, 2022.
She is survived by husband Edward, sons Christopher and James, sister Lily Stearns, sister-in-law Mona Noyes, nephew Ross MacDonald, nieces Heather Baker (John) and Colleen Noyes-Reynolds (Kim DeFaveri), sister-in-law Bertha Carter, nephew Jack Carter (Lorraine), and nieces Pam (Gary) and Carrie (Warren). She was predeceased by her father John, mother Barbara, brother Myron and sister Marian.
Jenny grew up in Winnipeg. A gregarious, outgoing girl, she had much fun and mischief with her sisters and brother. She attended St. John's High School, then worked at Congdon Marsh Ltd.
Jenny and Edward were married on a cool September day at St. Luke's Church in Winnipeg. They settled on Halkirk Bay in East Kildonan. She enriched Chris' and James' childhoods with board games, Easter egg hunts, birthday parties, Halloween costumes and stuffed Christmas stockings.

She and Ed curled and socialized with dear friends Irvine and Anne Jackson and Elmer and Dorothy Adolph.
When her sons finished elementary school Jenny resumed her career. She worked for the Court of Queen's Bench and Manitoba Securities Commission. In the early 1990s she retired to a more relaxed life of gardening, travel and watching sports.
She was active in the church, at St. Stephen's and later St. Andrews On The Red. A music lover, she sang in St. Stephen's' choir and regularly in her kitchen.
She nurtured two longtime family cats like additional sons, lavishing them with affection - first adventurous Herman, then innocent Hobbes. She had fun spotting unusual birds in the yard and identifying their species with her handy guidebook. In winter she liked to watch wildlife through the living room and kitchen windows. She gave Ed friendly reminders to put out seed for birds and peanuts for rabbits.
In retirement she, Ed and the Adolphs enjoyed sightseeing vacations to Europe, Alaska and Atlantic and Western Canada.
In recent years she attended Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball games with Ed and liked to learn about the players and socialize with other fans. She loved watching curling and Winnipeg Blue Bomber football on television and analyzing the games afterward.
Jenny was giving and generous, freely offering food, time, rides and support to those in need.
We will remember her smile, her singing, her devotion to family and friends, and her handwritten notes of affection.
We hope to have a gathering in the coming months to celebrate her life.

Our wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend Jenny lived a good life. She now sings in the stars.
