MICHAEL DAVID FENN
May 12, 1946 – February 2, 2022

After a lengthy and courageous battle, Michael was taken peacefully on February 2, 2022. He was where he wanted to be - at home - until almost the very end. Following a brief stay in hospital and visits from his wife, Carole, and brother, Tom, his soul left all of us on his own terms.
Known for his kind and gentle yet strong demeanour, Michael will be fondly remembered by the many he befriended and met throughout his life and his long and varied career in sales and marketing. Life and work experiences contributed to his quick wit and sense of humour while his storytelling hedged on legendary. He was a man who always went the extra mile for family, friends and clients.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Alyce, and is survived by his three brothers - Tom (Ellen), Patrick (Lori), Phillip (Rhonda) - and two sisters - JoAl (Glenn) and Janie - along with all members of their immediate and extended families. He will be lovingly, sadly and forever missed by Carole, his wife of almost 50 years. His furry friends, Gracie and Blinken, are also missing their "papa."
In keeping with his express wishes, Michael has been cremated and no gathering will be held. Should family and friends so desire, memorial donations can be gratefully made to a charity of their choice. Messages of condolences will also be graciously accepted to cafenn@mymts.net

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was 15 years old and had the privilege of meeting "Fenn" for the first time in grade 10. Jae mentioned how impeccably dressed Mike always was. I would second that, by saying his shirts and pants were always pressed perfectly. Walker was taking his commercial pilot's licence and needed 3 volunteers to accompany him in a small plane. Mike and I quickly volunteered. I even put on my new Florsheim shoes and pants for the occasion because I knew Mike was going to be there. We flew from Winnipeg Airport to St. Andrews, which at that time was a grassy field. Walker was planning on practicing touch and goes. As we approached St. Andrews, we could clearly see the runway with lots of water on both sides. What wasn't clear, was the amount of water on the runway itself. We quickly learned that the long grass hid the 2 or 3 inches of water and we quickly came to an abrupt stop. Walker maneuvered off the active runway but got stuck in the mud. A few moments later, we were up to our knees in mud lifting the plane while Walker revved up the engine and we made it to higher ground. Thinking back, fear was never in the equation and Mike and I couldn't stop laughing. Imagine, Mike of all people soaken wet. When we landed back in Winnipeg we asked him how he was going to go to work looking like that. He replied in typical fashion "I always have a spare pair of shoes in the car just in case". Our first plane ride 58 years ago. "How time flies" Rest in Peace my friend. Gord Sabel MMC - Posted by: Gord Sabel (Highschool friend) on: Mar 22, 2022

  • For more than a decade or so, a group of about a half-dozen of us who grew up in EK and attended MMC (the "MMC Guys") have gotten together every couple of months or so for a breakfast and BS session at the Sals to catch up on folks and to solve the world's problems, and Mike was a part of that group. In our high school classes, Mike never showed up without being impeccably dressed and groomed.....always!! When we changed classes you could count on him to make a quick duck into the washroom to make sure every hair was in place before the next class. It always gave us a good chuckle which we would later recall with a smile at some of our breakfast gatherings 50+ years later. At our last MMC Guys breakfast a couple of months ago, Mike told us that his treatments were no longer doing the trick for him and his time would be running out. He was very calm and stoic about it and wanted no sympathy...he was just facing the facts and that was that. Little did we know then that the end would come as soon as it has done. Although Mike's physical presence will be missed at the next breakfast meets, we know he'll be with us in spirit each time we gather. Rest in Peace Mike. You were a class act and will be missed. Cheers! - Posted by: Jae Eadie (friend from high school) on: Feb 27, 2022

  • Cynthia and I send you our deepest condolences for the loss of your loved one. Michael was a kind and gentle person, who we had the honor of knowing. We had a friendship with him in the earlier years of our lives, and truly enjoyed our time we shared with him. He will be truly missed but not forgotten. - Posted by: Gary Light (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2022
