MARY EDITH LOBB
On February 21, 2022, Mary Edith Lobb (Tomkins) was called home. She was the last of her generation and goes home to dad (Bill); sister (Margaret) and brother-in-law (Roy McDonald); infant brother (John) and her parents, (Kathleen (Matheson) and James Tomkins).
Left to cherish her memory are children, Garnett (Lori Anne), John (Barb), Kathleen (Gary) and Norma (Rick); grandchildren, Bart (Carol), Marty (Wade), Stacey (Dan), Lindsay (Danielle), Ben (Christine), Jimmy, Michael (Bevin), Erin, Jordan (Rachel), Garrett, Angela, Shawn (Sean), Garnett (Ashlee) and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Devan, Ryenn, Kennedy, Connor, Eric (Kelly), Darrin, Demi, Brody, Aubrielle, Weston, Macie, Dylan, Tyson, Hailey, James, Heath, Harrison, Kaela, Karter, Tyler, Colten, Garnett, Eastyn and Raleigh; great-great grandson Charlie.
Mom was born August 8, 1923 in the Rectory of St. Andrews on the Red. She had many fond memories of her time spent there with her sister Margaret. Her Mom passed shortly after childbirth and Mom and her sister went to live with their grandparents in the Rectory of St. Johns Cathedral. Their grandfather, John William Matheson was the Dean of the Cathedral at that time.
She attended Balmoral Hall School finishing head of her class. She went on to study nursing at Winnipeg General Hospital - now part of the HSC. She was one of the first nurses to work at the then new Childrens' Hospital. Later in her career, she dedicated herself to working on the detox ward at HSC as a triage nurse and the Main Street Project, where she was a board member. After retiring, Mom and Dad spent many a happy summer with the family at the cottage at Nestor Falls.
Mom was a proud descendant of the Lord Selkirk Settlers of 1815. She was a life member of The Lord Selkirk Association of Ruperts' Land.
During her life, Moms' faith never wavered. She was a true Christian as she did not just talk her beliefs, she walked them. Mom gave much of herself to anyone and never expected any thank you or praise. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church for 65 years and an associate member of St. John the Divine since 1972. At the age of 84, she took a four year theology course, graduating in May of 2012.
She truly left this world a better place. She will be very much missed by all.
The family thanks all the staff at West Park Manor from the bottom of our hearts for their dedicated care of Mom. They are such a caring group of people.
"Words will not wipe away your tears,
And hugs may not ease the pain, but
Hold onto your memories, because
Forever they will remain."
A formal funeral service will be arranged at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory can be made to Main Street Project or The Jubilee Fund.
