RAYMOND DAVID BODNARUK
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce Raymond's passing on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Health Sciences Centre, following a year long challenge with leukaemia.
Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his two children, daughter Stacey (Marc) and son Darren; his siblings and lifelong friends.
Raymond was predeceased by his father William Bodnaruk; mother Rose Bodnaruk and his wife Ingrid Bodnaruk.
Ray was born in Winnipeg on April 11, 1944. He grew up in the country, Highland Glen, north of Winnipeg in a family of seven siblings. After completing high school (top in his class) in Selkirk in 1962, he moved to Winnipeg to study Engineering at University of Manitoba, completing his degree in 1966. He went on to enjoy a successful and rewarding career of 37 years with the Manitoba Water Resources Branch, specializing in watershed and drainage project planning and his last eight years, moving into management positions. His knowledge and expertise facilitated important changes to Manitoba's water policies and The Water Rights Act.
Early into his career, he met the love of his life, Ingrid, whom he married on December 9, 1967. Raymond loved "Ingy /Froggy" so dearly often referring to her as his best friend and partner for life, who had been "sent by God." Their daughter, Stacey was born in 1973 and son Darren in 1975. Ray and Ingrid lived a happy, fun and adventurous life with their children, introducing them to many sports, cabin life and many fun family ski trips in Banff.
To his friends and family, Ray was admired for his love of golf, skiing, tennis, lake cabin getaways and more golf. He would respectfully offer advice and wisdom, always lending a helping hand when and where necessary. Remembered by his work colleagues for his professionalism, kindness and industry-progressing contributions, making Manitoba's water distribution safer and more efficient.
Ray was a "big brother" to many and lived with grace and courage and dignity until the end.
Special thanks to the team at CancerCare Manitoba for their help and care of Ray during his treatments and final days.
A service will be held on March 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, followed by interment and a short reception. The service will also be available for online streaming on YouTube.

I just learned of Ray's passing. My condolences to his family. I spent a lot of time when I was younger at the Bodnaruk household. As well as being invited out to the cottages they would rent during the summer months. I will never forget the time Ray asked me jump in their smaller boat and drive it over to the boat launch to load up. I think he had more confidence in my skills than I did at the time but after a rather choppy ride and perhaps a couple sketchty moments I made it to the shore unscathed! Thank you Ray for some great memories! - Posted by: Noel Enns (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2023

I'm very sad to hear of Ray's passing. I was privileged to be his next-door neighbour for a good decade, and both he and Ingrid were about the best neighbours a person could hope for. He was kind, helpful and very caring of our children. I appreciate his help and advice on many things over the years and will always remember our chats over the fence. He always had the best-looking lawn in the entire neighbourhood. I offer my sincerest condolences to Stacey and Darren and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Nevil Stephens (Neighbour) on: Mar 16, 2022

I had the pleasure of getting to know Ray and Ingrid through the UM Curling League. Ray was always willing to share his knowledge of the sport. I was inspired by Ray and Ingrid's example (curling, golfing, skiing, skating) to become more physically active myself. We will miss them both! Condolences to the Bodnaruk family. - Posted by: Angela Osterreicher (UM Curling League) on: Mar 14, 2022

I attended Highland High School at the same years of the Bodnaruk students. I remember Donald, Raymond and their sister all in the same classroom. Very intelligent students and I had the utmost respect for all. I was raised on a small farm in Ashfield School area. Just a short distance west of Highland Glen. My uncles , after serving in the war, opened Cox Bro’s store beside Ashfield school. I send my condolences to the Bodnaruk families. - Posted by: Darwin Cox (School classmate) on: Mar 13, 2022

I was very sad to learn of Ray and Ingrid's passing. We had so many things in common - Ingrid and I played tennis at Tuxedo Tennis Club and became friends. We soon discovered that we loved golf and skiing, and had many fun adventures together. Ray led us down many a ski slope, and around many golf courses. Ingrid was just a great all-round athlete! Good at everything she tried. I'm very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Claudette Blunderfield (friend) on: Mar 12, 2022
