JAMES TOKAR
The family of James Tokar is saddened to announce the passing of their beloved father, James on March 10, 2022, at Pembina Place Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. James experienced increasing symptoms of dementia and his health deteriorated as a result.
Our dad was born on November 1, 1936 in rural Manitoba near Inglis, in the RM of Boulton in the district of Shell Valley. Music was a big part of dad's life. In his late teens and early twenties dad was part of a country band with his cousins. They played at many barn dances and weddings. It was at one of these local barn dances near Shevlin that he met the love of his life, Marion. They were married and went on to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary before his beloved Marion lost her battle with cancer in 2021.
James is survived by his loving daughter Maxine Tokar (Bob), son Michael Tokar (Wanda); grandchildren, Brittni (Peter), Chelsea, Shawn (Michelle), and Travis, as well as great-granddaughter Ava. Also left to treasure the memory of James are his brothers, Gordon Tokar and Ed Koski; four sisters-in-law, Doreen Doering, Bernice Edel, Elsie Gow and Hertha Nernberg; as well as brothers-in-law, Ken (Ginny) Nernberg, and Cliff (Alexa) Nernberg, John Fuhr, Jerry McLaughlin plus numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. James had an especially close relationship with his cousin Jack (Gail) Holunga and always looked forward to their regular and long telephone calls reminiscing about the 'Good Old Days'.
James was very active in his faith and church community. James would spend his winter evenings playing his guitar and working on the latest song he was writing. Other hobbies James enjoyed were tinkering in his garage, working on carpentry projects or polishing his vehicle. Favorite pastimes for Marion and James included golf, camping with a bonfire, fishing, playing cards like Canasta, Golf or Crib and spending time with family, especially with the grandchildren.
The funeral service for James will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, MB. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather in the church basement for a time of fellowship, luncheon and sharing of memories.
James' family would like to thank the staff of Beacon Hill Lodge and Pembina Place Personal Care Home for the care and kindness shown to our dad.

To all of James' loved ones, For many months now -- and especially since the death of Marion last year -- I have named James every week in my personal prayers, that the Lord would comfort him in the sorrowful losses of his beloved wife and their longtime home. He's happy now in the Presence of Christ, Whom he faithfully confessed for many long years. Gail and I treasured his never-failing good cheer during the years we had at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and were honoured more than once to be dinner guests in the Tokars' home. God bless all of you as you gather soon for his public farewell. And we can all honour his memory best when we cling in faith and trust to the Christ Who is now James' everlasting joy. Sending love and a wish for every blessing, Gail and Robert Bugbee LaSalle, Ontario - Posted by: Rev. Robert Bugbee (Friend) on: Mar 24, 2022

Heartfelt condolences to the Tokar family. It is with immense sorrow as I try to process that James Tokar (1936-2022) of Winnipeg has recently passed. James was a beauty in so many ways and will be dearly missed. James shared many stories, life lessons and always had time for a laugh or a joke or two. Reflecting on one of my favourite “James stories” was his narrative telling me about his passion or love to enjoy a plate of liver and onions for dinner. (Yuk - which I cannot eat at all!) Yet, he would drive miles for this special meal….. I always said he should try it on pizza and then license the idea! Lol. In fact, it was James Tokar who enthusiastically cheered us on - to organize the successful July 2019 Tokar family get-together in Regina, Saskatchewan. He would often say…. “I’m not getting any younger” so let’s get on with this reunion and make it happen! James Tokar was a senior member of our Tokar Family Branch #1 - eldest son of Artemon (Arthur) Tokar (1905-1993) who came to Canada with his parents in 1910 as a child - from the village of Voloca de Perelui and his Canadian born first spouse Tinnie Antosh (1919-1979). Unfortunately, James sadly had lost his spouse Marion nee Nernberg Tokar (1942-2021) who passed away last July. We all hope they are now reunited and are smiling down on us all. Thank you for all the special memories! You have blessed us beyond measure. RIP James. - Posted by: Dale McILwrick (Extended Tokar Family) on: Mar 23, 2022
