JOY BABB
(nee HAYDEN)
July 21, 1930- March 21, 2022
We are sad to announce the passing of Joy Babb, but are pleased to honour a life well-lived. Joy was born in Rosser, MB to Earl and Ada Hayden and grew up in Lyleton, MB alongside her six older brothers.
Joy was a loving, caring, supportive wife, mom, gramma and great-gramma. After a first date with Ken Babb in 1949, they were smitten with each other. Dad actually wrote a beautiful song to Joy after that date. They married in 1950 and cherished 69 years of marriage. Ken passed away in 2019. On August 2, 1957 they adopted three-month old twins, Mike and Jeff. We are so appreciative to have been adopted by such a loving, caring couple. Mom and Dad's infinite support for everything we did allowed both of us to pursue our interests and contributed greatly to any successes we have achieved. They also supported our families exceptionally well and our kids appreciated the love and support they received from their grandparents.
Joy and Ken's memories will live on with Mike (Cathy), Jeff (Jo-Ann); grandkids, David (Julie) and Kelly (Gavin) and Maureen and Jaime; and great-grandchildren, Desmond and Alder. Mom and Dad stayed in touch with her brothers' families and they enjoyed their relationships with many of the Hayden clan's kids.
Mom was proud of her work as a Secretary to the Bank Manager at the RBC branch at Arlington and Portage and of her volunteer and work time at the Western Canadian Aviation Museum. She was an avid five-pin bowler and grew to love golf, cycling and cross-country skiing. Family visits to Lyleton were regularly scheduled and provided an opportunity to learn about where Mom grew up. Clear Lake was always a special holiday destination.
Thank you to the friends and staff at The Boulton and thank you to the health care workers at the N1N unit at Concordia Hospital.
As per mom's wishes there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. If you look for your Mom and can't find her, look in your heart and she'll be there. May God bring you comfort in this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Gail Paul (Friend) on: Mar 26, 2022

I first met Joy back in the late fifties as the wife of a guy named Ken with whom I worked at CKRC. I've never known a nicer couple. One might say "the perfect couple". I last ran into Joy, after not having seen either of them for several years, at the Aviation Museum. Joy out front and Ken in the back helping to restore aircraft. I know I'm just one of a legion of friends and admirers who share the family's grief at such a loss. - Posted by: Murray Parker (friend and collegue) on: Mar 26, 2022

We are sorry to read about Joy’s passing. We first met Joy and Ken at Charleswood Golf Course. A lovely couple, so welcoming to new members. We always enjoyed visiting with them after a round of golf or at the many functions the golf course held. Please accept our condolences. She was a lovely lady. - Posted by: Mel and Joy Marsh (Aquaintences) on: Mar 26, 2022

My heartfelt thoughts go out to Mike and Jeff and their families during this time of grief. The two of you are a testament of what a wonderful upbringing you had, as I remember you both as being so bright, kind, and polite. What a wonderful legacy your parents have left behind. - Posted by: Tracy Szumlak (Yesis) (High school friend of Mike and Jeff) on: Mar 26, 2022

Mike and Jeff, So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She and your dad were frequent visitors to our home in Charleswood. Your dad would play the piano and your mom would sing. I first met your dad when I was in the hospital after having appendix surgery. He and your mom came to visit. Seeing as I had so many visitors, your dad went and played with another child who didn’t have anybody there. That was the first impression I had of him, that he was a kind man who loved children. Joy was always so good to myself and my siblings, always giving us grownup things. I was born on her eighth birthday. Condolences to you and your families. - Posted by: Elaine Ursel (Niece ) on: Mar 26, 2022
