GEORGE WALLACE MCKAY
1934 2022
The McKay family wish to announce to all friends, relatives and acquaintances the passing of George on to "The Next Place" in life's journey, to join his beloved wife, Gray on April 4, 2022, at the age of 87 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Gray; his mother Grace and father Wallace; granddaughter Hayley Belton; sisters, Eleanor Bailey and JeanAnn Seivewright.
He will be mourned by his brother-in-law and wife, Kent and Gayle Conn. Dad will be missed but remembered lovingly by Joy, Karen (Graeme), Larry and Murray (Janice) for all the years of love, laughs, patience and advice that we have all shared. Grampa will also be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Colin (Delilla) and Aidan; Chris, Melisa, and Danielle (Brett); Joshua (Chelsea); Ashlynne and Skyllar, and great-grandchildren, Marcus and Jackson Belton, as well as many nieces and nephews. Also, the family would like to thank Doreen Pitzel (deceased) and her family for sharing Dad's declining years with all her tender, loving kindness. Her presence was like a breath of fresh air for him and spilled over to the family, as well.
Dad was born in Moose Jaw, SK. He was raised and took his schooling in Regina, SK where he acquired a high school education. He met his future wife, Gray, at St. Andrews United Church young peoples group and they were married on October 31, 1959.
They raised four super children while living in Regina, Melfort, SK, Brandon, MB, Ottawa, ON, Norway House, MB and finally, in Winnipeg, MB. He received his Certificate in Hospital Administration (HOM) in 1967 and was employed in various nursing and personal care homes and Norway House Hospital, finally moving to Winnipeg to work with Health Canada in dealing with Indigenous people living on Reserves. He retired in 1995.
Family, friends, music, curling, travelling and golf were the activities and joys of Dad's life.
The family would like to thank all for their support, good wishes and prayers. Their empathy and compassion is marvellous. Thank you also to Dr. George and the staff at the Grace Hospital on the 2nd floor for their care and compassion in this difficult time for the family.
In lieu of flowers, would you please consider a donation to Crestview United Church or your local CancerCare branch.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. The family prefers all in attendance to wear a mask, respect social distancing, and be vaccinated.
