DOREEN BAUER
March 13, 1932 – April 1, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Bauer (nee Leighton) at the age of 90 years.
Doreen leaves behind her three children, John (Jackie), Bill (Debbie), Janice (Don); six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, sister Joan Biener and many nieces and nephews.
Doreen was predeceased by her husband William, her infant daughter, her parents, Alex and Mary (nee Knox) Leighton, and her brother Stanley Leighton.
As a young woman Doreen held several job positions but after marrying William she assumed the role as a full-time homemaker, which she enjoyed tremendously. Mom had a great talent for cross stitch, knitting and baking. Mom always put together the greatest meals a family could ask for.
Doreen and William enjoyed many years at their Twin Beach cottage with their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. The cottage inspired many different events including the family's version of the Gong Show. Doreen was well known as the "shovel pulling champion" of Twin Lakes Beach. They were also the hosts for many years for the Bauer-ee Blitz, a yearly lawn dart tournament.
Doreen and William enjoyed travelling throughout the USA with William's brothers and sisters. Many great memories ensued and Mom spoke often of the trips and the fun they had.
Mom's nature allowed her to be a second mother to many of the kids in the neighbourhood and all were welcomed with open arms.
Mom, you will always be with us.
We love you and miss you.
See you when we get there!
As per Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to Drs. Ali Khan, Marianne Krahn, Kathleen Ross and Karen Lage; as well as the fantastic nursing staff at Concordia N3E, Urgent Care and St. Boniface Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's name to CancerCare Manitoba, Diabetes Canada or the Canadian Blood services.

I know Murray has found memories of twin beaches with his family. Aunty Doreen will be truly missed. I know we have enjoyed our time with the aunties on our lunch excursions over the past few years. The many laughs and giggles of the stories that Aunty Doreen and Aunty Joan shared with us. Our condolences to all of you. My maiden name is “Leighton” and our dad’s were brothers, mine was the youngest in the family. Your dad was living in Canada and after his father (our grandfather) died, your dad and another brother brought his mother (our Granny) and my dad Bert, to Canada in 1922 from Scotland. I have memories of visiting Twin Beaches as a child and spending time with your mom, my cousin, she was so grown up and beautiful. You are so fortunate to have had her in your lives. Deepest condolences - Posted by: Sandra Skwarek (Cousin) on: Apr 09, 2022
